PART ONE

Surnames of my 16 2x Great Grandparents

BACK / BECK	Annie Back (1871-1935), my paternal paternal Great Grandmother, was born in Brighton, Sussex. Her ancestors arrived in Brighton towards the end of the 18th century. Previous generations were from the area between Seaford and Kingston near Lewes, Sussex. Annie married William Charles Willard (1866-1950) in 1891.
BARHAM	Frances Barham (1836-1917), my 2x Great Grandmother, was along with all her Barham ancestors back to the 15th century, born in Wadhurst, Sussex. Frances married Frederick Edward Boorman (1846-1884) in 1866.
BOORMAN	Flora Boorman (1868-1952), my paternal maternal Great Grandmother, was born in Wadhurst, Sussex. Previous generations were also from the Wadhurst to Burwash area. Flora married Arthur Edward Warman (1872-1918) in 1896.
DOWLEN	Lily Dowlen (1869-1949), my maternal maternal Great Grandmother, was born in Henfield, Sussex, as were many of her ancestors. Lily married William Stillaway (1866-1939) in 1892.
GOBLE	Emma Charlotte Goble (1863-1951), my maternal paternal Great Grandmother, was born in Fareham, Hampshire, but her ancestors were from the Midhurst area of Sussex. Emma married Thomas William Tullett (1862-1911) in 1884.
HOADLEY	Susan Hoadley (1836-1901), my 2x Great Grandmother, was born in Henfield, Sussex, as was her father. Her Grandfather was born in nearby Twineham, Sussex, and although there were Hoadley families in the area I have yet to identify her Great Grandfather's date and place of birth. Susan married Charles Dowlen (1827-1896) in 1856.
PEARSON	Lydia Charlotte Pearson (1837-1899), my 2x Great Grandmother, was born in Bepton, Sussex. Her father and Grandfather were brickmakers in the Bepton and Woolbeding area. Lydia married/lived with Edmund Goble (c1841-1911) in about 1861.
SETFORD	Thomas Setford (1838-1905) was said to be the father of my illegitimately born Great Grandfather, Thomas William Tullett (1862-1911). Thomas married Catherine Tullett (1836-1924) in 1862. The Setfords seem to have arrived in Sussex in the mid 18th century, but I am stuck trying to find the birth/baptism of Thomas's father, in about 1792.
SILVERSON	Henry Silverson (1850-1935) was the step father of my illegitmately born Great Grandfather William Stillaway (1866-1939). Henry married Eliza Stillaway (1846-1908) in 1874. The Silversons were from the area along the foot of the north side of the South Downs, from Henfield to Albourne.
SPICER	Jane Spicer (1842-1885), my 2x Great Grandmother, was born in Brighton, Sussex. The Spicers were Brighton Fishermen and would seem to have been in the city since at least the 17th century. Jane married John Simmons Back (1843-1898) in 1864.
STILLAWAY	Annie Elsie Stillaway (1898-1985), my maternal Grandmother, was born in Henfield, Sussex, as were her Stillaway ancestors back to the 1770's. For some unknown reason, earlier generations went by the surname Cobby. Annie married Thomas William Tullett (1891-1956) in 1920.
TULLETT	My Mother was born Eileen Isabel Tullett. Her father was born in Portslade, Sussex and his ancestors were from Cuckfield and Slaugham in Sussex. Eileen married my father Jesse Willard.
WARMAN	Bessie Warman (1900-1987), my paternal Grandmother, was born in Southampton, Hampshire, although her father and his ancestors were from Beenham, Berkshire. Bessie married William Charles Willard (1894-1948) in 1920.
WEBB	Mary Elizabeth Webb (1836-1874), my 2x Great Grandmother, was born in Beenham, Berkshire, as was her father. Although Webbs had been associated with Beenham for many centuries I have yet to work out if and how my Webb ancestors link to other Webb families. Mary Elizabeth married John Warman (1832-1887) in 1866.
WEDGE	Mary Wedge (1840-1911), my 2x Great Grandmother, was born in Pulborough, Sussex and her father in Shipley, Sussex. Her Grandfather was born in Chichester, Sussex, the illegitimate son of Ann Widge, widow, nee Gibbons. Mary married George Willard (1835-1902) in 1857.
WILLARD	I am Mandy Willard. My Grandfather and Great Grandfather were both born in Portslade, Sussex. Before then, my Willard ancestors were from Pulborough, Sussex.
