Daniel WRIGHT (c1725-?)

and Mary HUSSELL (c1725-?)

Daniel Wright and Mary Hussell were my 6x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married by banns on 9 December 1749 in Wilmington, Sussex.  They were both of Wilmington.

Daniel Wrightís date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

Mary Hussellís date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

Daniel Wright and Mary Hussell had 5 known children:

  1. Elizabeth Wright was baptised on 22 July 1750 in Wilmington.

  2. Mary Wright was baptised on 4 February 1753 in Wilmington.

  3. Alexander Wright was baptised on 10 November 1755 in Wilmington.

  4. Ann Wright, my 5x Great Grandmother, was baptised on 14 May 1758 in Wilmington.  She married Walter Sawyers in 1781.  (They have their own page.)

  5. Robert Wright was baptised on 23 October 1761 in Wilmington and buried there on 8 December 1764.

I have checked the East Sussex Baptism Index for both Daniel Wright and Mary Hussell, whom I would guess were born before 1730, but there are no likely baptisms for either of them.  The IGI has a Dan Wright baptised on 14 January 1727 in Tonbridge, Kent the son of William Wright and Mary.  There are many other Danielís born/baptised 1720 +/-10 years, but the Kent one is the closest to Wilmington.

As for Mary Hussell there is not a single possible birth/baptism in the IGI.  The IGI does give that a Mary Hussel married Jno Wood on 2 December 1729 in Heathfield, Sussex, and Heathfield is not all that far from Wilmington.  In between is the non-IGIíd parish of Hailsham, plus Heathfield is very poorly covered by the IGI, so there may just be something to find.  Might the 2 Maryís have been some how related?

A William Hussel and Mary Baker married on 25 April 1721 in Warbleton, Sussex.  At that time William was of Hailsham and Mary of Warbleton.
