William WOOLVEN (c1735-?)

and Ann STEEL (1737-?)

 

William Woolven and Ann Steel married on 3 June 1756 in West Grinstead, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  Ann was the sister of my 6x Great Grandmother, Elizabeth Steel.)

William Woolven’s date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Might he have been the son of William Woolven (1697-?) and Susanna Symonds (1703-?)?

Ann Steel was baptised on 24 April 1737 in Newtimber, Sussex.  She was the daughter of John Steel (1707-1784) and Elizabeth Bartholemew (1713-1791).

 

William Woolven and Ann Steel had 5 known children:

  1. Ann Woolven was baptised on 28 April 1757 in West Grinstead.  She died aged 62 years and was buried on 3 June 1819 in West Grinstead.

    Ann married Henry West by banns on 7 February 1780 in West Grinstead, at which time they were both of West Grinstead.  The witnesses were William Woolven and Richard Stiles.

    Henry died aged 66 years and was buried on 1 September 1819 in West Grinstead.

    Henry and Ann had the following children:

    1. Catherine West was baptised on 13 April 1781 in West Grinstead.

    2. Henry West was baptised on 29 December 1782 in West Grinstead and buried there on 2 January 1783, as an infant.

    3. Mary West was baptised on 14 March 1784 in West Grinstead.

    4. Ann West was baptised on 9 October 1785 in West Grinstead.

    5. Sarah West was baptised on 24 June 1787 in West Grinstead and buried there as an infant on 19 August 1787.

    6. Henry West was baptised on 15 April 1792 in West Grinstead.

  2. Sarah Woolven was baptised on 5 September 1759 in West Grinstead.

    Did she marry James Miles on 26 June 1779 in Cowfold?  There was another Sarah Woolven baptised in West Grinstead in 1754.

  3. Mildred Woolven was baptised on 16 November 1761 in West Grinstead.

    Mildred married Philip Kenset by banns on 10 April 1789 in West Grinstead.  The witnesses were William Woolven and William Gratwick.

  4. Elizabeth Woolven was baptised on 15 October 1766 in West Grinstead.  She married Richard Fairs in 1788.  (They have their own page.)

  5. Richard Woolven was baptised on 11 October 1772 in West Grinstead and buried there on 8 July 1773.
