Thomas WOOLVEN (1758-1819)

and Mary CARTER (1761-1821)

Thomas Woolven and Mary Carter married by licence on 22 July 1781 in Ashurst, Sussex.  Their marriage licence was issued on 21 July 1781 by the Archdeaconry of Chichester which stated that Thomas was a 22 year old bachelor and husbandman of Ashurst.  Mary was a spinster under 21 years and married with the consent of John Carter a farmer.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)  On 4 November 1779 a Thomas Woolven married Ann Elliott by licence in Ashurst.  Their licence recorded that Thomas was bachelor and Husbandman of Henfield, aged 21 years, which means there were 2 Thomas Woolven's of about the same age.  Ann was then a spinster of Ashurst aged 21 years.

Thomas Woolven may have been born/baptised on 9 November 1758 and he may have been the son of Thomas Woolven (1716-1789) and Jane Holden (?-1791).  But the 1758 birth could be that of the Thomas who married Ann Elliott.  He died or was buried on 12 April 1819.

Mary Carter may have been born in 1761.  She was the daughter of John Carter and Mary Lelliott (1738-1817).
