Woolvin and
Ann Fairs
married by banns on 16 October 1853 in Cowfold, Sussex.
John was then a bachelor and a labourer, whilst Ann was a spinster and a
minor. Their fathers were named in the marriage register as
John Woolvin and Joseph Fairs who were both
labourer. The witnesses to their marriage were James Stoffell
and Eliza ???ers. (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Woolven was baptised on 4
November 1827 in Shipley, Sussex. He was the son of John Woolven
and Mary Francis.
Ann Fairs was baptised on 23 November
1834 in Cowfold. She was the daughter of
Joseph
Fairs (1800-1873) and
Philadelphia Richards
(c1799-1867), and the
granddaughter of Richard Fairs
and Elizabeth Woolven (1766-?).
At the time of the 1841 census she was 6 years old and living with her
parents in Cowfold.
When the 1881 census was recorded the couple and their son Alfred were
living at Henfield Road Restaurant in Cowfold. John was then an
Agricultural Labourer.

He was a Plasterer's Labourer in 1881.
