John WOOLGAR (c1490-?)

and Joanna (c1490-1558)

John Woolgar and Joanna were my 13x Great Grandparents.  They married before 1515.

John Woolgarís date and place of birth are unknown.  He was of Pokerlee, Henfield.  He died before 1552.

Joannaís date and place of birth are unknown.  She was buried on 14 September 1558, Edburton, Sussex.  The following is an extract from "The Story of Henfield", by Henry de Candole, M.A. (Vicar of Henfield):  "In the Survey of 1552, Joanna Woolgar, widow of John Woolgar, is the freeholder" - this was of Pokerlee.  Pokerlee was held by Robert Wolgard, which had formerly belonged to John de Pokerle, and earlier to Matilda Pokerle.

John Woolgar and Joanna had 2 known children: 5 202

  1. Thomas Woolgar, my 12x Great Grandfather, was born about 1515.  He married my 12x Great Grandmother 5 266 Margaret Smythe in about 1540.  (They have their own page.)

  2. John Woolgar died after 1 June 1577.  He married and had 2 known sons:

    1. John Woolgar

    2. William Woolgar
