Thomas WOOD
(1660-?)
and Elizabeth BEW (c1665-?)

Thomas Wood
and Elizabeth
Bew
may have been my 8x Great Grandparents. (Click
here
to see their place in my pedigree chart.) They
married on 12 April 1687 at the parish church of St. Bartholomew's in Burwash, Sussex.
Another Thomas Wood
married Mary Bowyer
in 1682 in Burwash.
Thomas Wood (or Atwood) may have been baptised on 15 December 1659 the son of
Thomas Wood, or, as I think more likely, on 29 April 1660 the son of
Laurence Wood and
Elizabeth Cat. Both baptisms took place
in Burwash.
Elizabeth Bew's
date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me. She does not seem
to have been baptised in Burwash, nor do any possible baptisms appear in the IGI for Sussex or Kent. Nor does the Sussex Family History Group's
marriage index record the marriage of any possible parents or siblings.
Thomas Wood
and Elizabeth Bew had 5 known children:
-
Thomas Atwood
alias Wood was baptised on 12 February 1687/8 in Burwash.
He may have married Mary Hyland on 18 February 1717/8
in Burwash, but there was also a
Thomas Wood
was baptised on 1 June 1690 in Burwash.
-
Mary Atwood
was baptised on 18 September 1688 in Burwash.
-
John Atwood
was baptised on 1 January 1690/1 in Burwash.
-
Elizabeth Atwood, my 7x Great Grandmother, was baptised on 12
March 1692/3 in Burwash. She married
John
Tomson in 1713. (They have their own page.)
-
Laurence Wood
was baptised on 19 March 1694/5 in Burwash. He may have been buried
on 11 November 1697 in Burwash as Lawrence Alwood.
Both parents names,
Thomas and Elizabeth, were recorded against the baptisms of their 5
children.
I can not be
certain that Thomas was the son of Laurence and am speculating this was so,
because he named a son Laurence.
Elizabeth
Attwood widow of Brightling left a will dated 23 February 1747.
In her will she mentioned her children: Thomas, William, John,
Nicholas and Lawrence.
