Stephen WILMSHURST (c1620-?)

and Sarah WILMSHURST (c1625-?)

Stephen Wilmshurst and Sarah Wilmshurst married on 16 April 1650 in Heathfield, Sussex.  They were not my direct ancestors.  My 9x Great Grandfather was another Stephen Wilmshurst who married Susannah Brightridge on 25 July 1648, also in Heathfield.  Might the 2 Stephens have been cousins?  At the time of Stephen and Sarah's marriage, their surnames were spelt Wimpshurst.

Stephen Wilmshurst’s date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  (See the notes on the page for the other Stephen, for a list of possible parents.)

Sarah Wilmshurst’s date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

Stephen Wilmshurst and Sarah Wilmshurst had 5 known children:

1. Stephen Wilmshurst was baptised on 18 June 1651 in Mayfield, Sussex.  He may have married Elizabeth Ovenden before 1680, but no possible marriage has been found in the Sussex Family History Group's marriage index.

2. Elizabeth Wilmshurst was baptised on 9 September 1654 in Mayfield.

3. John Wilmshurst was baptised on 4 March 1655/6 in Mayfield.  He may have married Elizabeth Hollick of Glynde by licence on 23 March 1674/5 in Ringmer, Sussex.  But John was then said to be of Warbleton.  Or as  John Wilmshurst of Goudhurst, Kent, he may have married Mary Lambe of Salehurst, on 26 June 1676 in Dallington, Sussex.

4. Simon Wilmshurst was baptised on 25 March 1660 in Mayfield.  He may have married Martha Wynch on 16 October 1701 at St. Mary's in Fish Street, London.  He was then said to be of Mayfield and she of Tyshurst (Ticehurst).

5. George Wilmshurst was baptised on 9 November 1662 in Mayfield.  He married Mary Balcomb on 19 May 1688 in Wadhurst, Sussex.
