and Sarah WEST (1680-1752)
William Willard and Sarah West were my 7x Great Grandparents.
here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)
They married on 29 September 1707 at the parish church of St. Mary's in Pulborough, Sussex.
(In 1707 the Rector of Pulborough was Mr. James Wickliffe and his
daughter Jane was baptised on the same day as William and Sarah married.)
William Willard's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me,
but I am guessing he was born about 1680. He was buried on 23 February
1753 in Pulborough. His baptism was not recorded in the Pulborough
parish registers, nor that of any other Willard infants in 1680, +/- 10
years, nor was he baptised in the neighbouring parish of Billingshurst
during that time. William was most probably a labourer, although so far I have
not found any reference to his occupation. Nor have I found a will for
him or any details about property which he may have tenanted.
Might he have been the son of
(c1650-1726) and possibly Mary (c1655-1740)? Richard
would seem to have had children baptised in the neighbouring parish of West
Chiltington between 1676 and 1696.
Sarah West was baptised on 26 August 1680 in Pulborough. She
was the daughter of
She was buried on 5 June 1752 in Pulborough. There was also a Sarah West baptised on
10 July 1683 in the neighbouring parish of Billingshurst, Sussex, the
Ralph West (?-1736) and
Jane Huchen (?-1736), but she was
buried there on 28 May 1697.
William Willard and
Sarah West had 4 known children:

He married twice. Firstly to

was baptised on 28 June 1715 in Pulborough. He may have been the
Daniel Willard of Horsham who left a will in 1773 (ref. S 55 - I haven't yet
seen this document). Or he may have been buried on 11 January 1790
in Pulborough, but this burial may have been that of his great nephew
Willard who was born in 1764.
Sarah Willard's birth/baptism has not so far been found.
She was buried on 27 March 1719 in Pulborough.
Edward Willard was baptised on 14 January 1720/1 in Pulborough
and buried there on 6 March 1720/1.
