The 1841 census records an Elizabeth Briggs aged 60 was living with the family of 40 year old William Bartelott in Pond Street, Petworth and in the next but one property was a 50 year old Elizabeth Briggs along with her 6 children.

William and Elizabeth had the following children:

  3. Maria Saunders was born on 19 April 1799 and baptised on 8 May 1799 in Petworth.  She was most probably buried on 7 June 1851 in Sutton, however, the burial register noted she was 57 years old.

As Maria Sanders she married Abraham Carver on 6 February 1826 in Duncton, Sussex.

Abraham was baptised on 27 April 1800 in Sutton, Sussex and was the son of Henry Carver and Mary.  He died aged 41 years, as per the burial register, and was buried on 7 June 1842 in Sutton.

When the 1841 census was recorded the couple and daughter Eliza were living in Sutton.  They were both said to have been 40 years old, both born in Sussex and Abraham was an agricultural labourer.  The 1851 census recorded that Maria was a 57 year old widow and pauper, born in Petworth and then living in the Sutton Union Workhouse.
