Francis WILLARD
(c1835-?)
and Charlotte (c1840-?)

Francis Willard and Charlotte
married before or about 1867. (They were not my direct
ancestors.)
Francis Willard was born about 1835/6 in Guestling,
Sussex. He was the son of Batchelor Willard
(1792-1844) and Elizabeth Stone (c1790-?).
Charlotte was born about 1839-42 in Cork, Ireland.
When the 1871 census was recorded, Francis was a 35 year old married
fisherman on board the Happy Return, crewed by other Sussex men.
They were included in the census for Sutton Pool, Plymouth, Devon.
I have not found Charlotte and their children in the 1871 census.
At the time of the 1881 census the family were living at 10 Hill
Street, Hastings. Francis was a 45 year old gas labourer and
Charlotte was 39. Six of their children were with them on
census night.
In 1891 the family were living at 1 Brook Cottages in Hastings.
Francis was then a 55 year old gas works fitter and Charlotte was
52. Four of their children were at home on census night, as
well as 4 year old granddaughter Ellen Willard,
born in Hastings, and 20 year old boarder and hawker James
Woodford.
When the 1901 census was recorded the couple were living at 36 St.
Mary's Road in Hastings. Francis was a 66 year old resort
house fitter and Charlotte was 60. With them on census night
was their married daughter Frances and her infant granddaughter, and
their 14 granddaughter Helen Willard.
