Daniel WILD
(1711-1757)
and Mary COBBY (1715-?)

Daniel Wild
and
Mary Cobby may
have been my 6x Great Grandparents.
possible place in my pedigree chart.)
They married by licence on 21 August 1736 at the parish church of St.
James in Heyshott, Sussex. Their marriage licence was issued on the
same day by the Archdeaconry of Chichester. It recorded that Daniel Wilds was a bachelor
and husbandman of Woolavington, whilst Mary was a spinster of Woolavington.
Surety for the marriage licence was provided by Daniel himself and Richard Huddlestone a
yeoman of Heyshott.
Daniel Wild
may have been baptised on 25 July
1711 in West Dean, Sussex and have been the son of
John Wild
(?-1720) and
Catherine Austin (1672-?), which I think most likely. He
may have been buried on 31 January 1757 in Graffham, Sussex.
Another Daniel Wild was baptised on 27 August 1715 in Kirdford, Sussex,
the son of
Daniel Wild (1682-?)
and Mary Tillet (1689-?).
Mary Cobby
may have been baptised on 8 May 1715 in Woolavington, Sussex, and have
been the
daughter of
John Cobby and
Mary
Willard.
Daniel Wild and Mary
Cobby may have had the following children:
-
John Wild was baptised on 21 July 1738 in Graffham, Sussex.
As John Wiles he may have married Ann
Legg by banns on 3 March 1760 in Woolavington. He was then
a labourer of Petworth and she a spinster. The witnesses to
their marriage were James Legg senior and
James Legg junior.
On 12 January 1761 a
Removal Order was issued to John Wild, along with wife Ann and
infant daughter Ann, from Tillington to Graffham, or vice versa.
Another Removal Order was
issued on 19 April 1768, in respect of John Wilds, wife Ann and
3 daughters under 7 years, namely Elizabeth, Mary and Ann. This
time the parishes involved were Tillington and Woolavington.
Their
children were baptised as follows:
-
Ann Wild's baptism has not been found, but presumably about
1760. She may have died young. Ann was part of the family
in 1761.
-
Elizabeth Wilds was born on 25 March and baptised on 28 March
1762 in Graffham. Only her father's name was shown in the
baptism register.
-
Mary Wild was baptised on 17 February 1765 in Petworth, Sussex.
Both her parents names were recorded in the baptism register.
-
Ann Wild was born before 1768.
-
Mary Wild, my 5x Great Grandmother,
may have been part of this family. She married
Robert Willard
(1735-1811) in 1762 in Graffham. (They have their own page.)
Might she have been born about 1740?
-
Elizabeth Wild was baptised on 14 March 1741/2 in Graffham and buried
there on 13 January 1753. The Graffham burial register noted
that she was the daughter of Daniel Wild and
Mary.
