Edward WHITEMAN
(c1655-1702)
and Ann MASON (c1655-1682)
and Maria CHESTER (1658-?)

Edward Whiteman
and
Maria Chester
married by licence on 3 August 1682 in Peasmarsh,
Sussex. She was then a spinster and they were both of Beckley, Sussex. They may have been my 7x Great Grandparents.
This was Edward's second marriage. He had previously married Ann Mason
on 11 May 1676 in Playden, Sussex.
Edward Whiteman’s
date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me. He may have been buried on
1 November 1702 in Beckley, but the parish register only states a name and
date. Might he have been baptised on 17 December 1643 in Rye, Sussex,
the son of John Whitman?
Ann Mason’s
date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me. She was buried on 24 May 1682 in Beckley and the parish
register records that she was the wife of Edward Whiteman.
Mary Chester
was baptised in October 1658 in Ewhurst,
Sussex. She was the daughter of
John Chester
and
Ann
or Agnes Daye.
Edward Whiteman and Ann
Mason had 3 known children:
-
Ann Whiteman
was baptised on 13 October 1678 in
Beckley. She have been buried on 23 April 1679 in Beckley, but the
entry says Ann wife of Edward rather than daughter of Edward.
However, if wife Ann died in April 1679, Edward would have had to have
married straight away as his son may have been born slightly less than 9
months later.
-
Edward Whiteman
was buried on 11 January 1680/1 in
Beckley. I have not found his baptism.
-
Ann Whiteman
was baptised in May 1682 in Beckley.
Edward Whiteman and Maria Chester had 4 known children:
-
Mary Whiteman
was baptised on 27 May 1683 in Beckley.
-
William Whiteman
was baptised on 25 July 1686 in Beckley
and buried there on 11 February 1688/9.
-
Edward Whiteman
was baptised on 11 January 1688/9 in
Beckley and buried there on 16 January 1691/2.
-
Thomas Whiteman was baptised on 4
July 1695 in Beckley.
Might Edward and Maria also
have been the parents of:
-
John Whiteman, my 6x Great Grandfather, who may have married twice.
Firstly in 1720 to Catherine Palmer and then in 1725 to Susanna
Hill, widow, who was previously
Susanna Dunster. Both marriages took place in Peasmarsh, Sussex.
(They have their own page.)
-
Edward Whiteman married Margery Miles by licence dated 13
October 1720 and issued by the Archdeaconry of Lewes. He was then a
husbandman of Bodiam and she a spinster. The couple had 3 known
children:
-
Mary Whightman was baptised on 17 June 1722 in Bodiam.
-
Margery Whiteman was baptised on 27 August 1732 in Rye.
-
Elizabeth Whiteman was baptised on 5 November 1734 in Rye.
