William WEST (1731-1762)

and Mary RICHARDSON (1740-?)

St. Peter's, February 1884 - from West and Mary Richardson were my 5x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married by banns on 29 September 1760 at the parish church of St. Peter's in Cowfold, Sussex.  They were both then of Cowfold.  William signed his name and Mary made her X mark.  The witnesses were Richard Moore (marked) and Henry Wady (signed).  They were married by the Vicar, Charles Ashburnham.  The banns were published in Cowfold on 14, 21 and 28 March 1760.

William West was baptised on 1 October 1731 in Shermanbury, Sussex.  He was the son of Nicholas West (1704-1786) and Sarah Roberts (1708-1758).  He was buried on 15 November 1762 in Cowfold and it was recorded in the burial register that he was the son of Nicholas and Sarah.

Mary Richardson was baptised on 24 February 1739/40 in Bolney, Sussex.  She was the daughter of Francis Richardson (1706-1760) and Mary (?-1753).

William West and Mary Richardson had 2 known children:

  1. Ann West, my 4x Great Grandmother, was born and baptised on 15 December 1760 in Cowfold.  She married Charles Dowlen in 1783.  (They have their own page.)

  2. John West was baptised on 5 August 1762 in Cowfold.  His mother's name was recorded as Sarah in the baptism register.  John married Phoebe Tulet in 1804.  (They have their own page.)
