Thomas WENHAM
(1688-?)
and Elizabeth KEES (1690-?)

Thomas Wenham
and
Elizabeth Kees
may have been my 7x Great
Grandparents. (Click
here to
see their place in my pedigree chart.) They married on 3 April 1716 in Ninfield, Sussex.
Thomas Wenham
was baptised on 7 March 1688 in Herstmonceux, Sussex. He was the son
of John Wenham
(1654-?) and Sarah
Gates.
Elizabeth
Kees was baptised on 4 May 1690 in Heathfield, Sussex. She was
the daughter of William Keys. Another Elizabeth Keys was
baptised on 20 January 1694/5 in Catsfield, Sussex, the daughter of
Richard Keys and Elizabeth Sedgit. But I think she
married Thomas Clever of Wartling, Sussex on 26 October 1718 in
Mountfield, Sussex, at which time she was of Bexhill.
Thomas Wenham and
Elizabeth Kees had 10 known children:
-
Ann
Wenham, my possible 6x Great
Grandmother,
was baptised on 20 January
1716/7 in Ninfield, Sussex. She married
Thomas
Gibson in 1734. (They have their own page.)
-
John Wenham was baptised on 3 December 1717 in Ninfield.
-
Mary Wenham was baptised on 21 December 1718 in Ninfield. She
may have married John Cramp on 10 October 1738 in Ninfield.
Mary was then said to be of Hooe, Sussex.
-
Elizabeth Wenham was baptised on 5 June 1720 in Ninfield.
-
Sara Wenham was baptised on 18 June 1721 in Ninfield. As
Sarah Wenham she may have married Richard Cozens on 29 October
1741 in Hooe.
-
Hannah Wenham was baptised on 13 March 1721/2 in Ninfield.
-
John Wenham was baptised on 6 December 1724 in Ninfield.
-
Hannah Wenham was baptised on 2 March 1728/9 in Ninfield.
-
Thomas Wenham was baptised on 14 June 1730 in Ninfield. He
was a Blacksmith of Ninfield and died after February 1787 - see further
below.
-
Grace Wenham was baptised on 8 September 1733 in Ninfield.
She may have married Thomas Longhurst by banns on 7 June 1756 in
Arlington, Sussex. They were both then of Arlington.

The following extract has come from the A2A web site:
Deeds of two cottages at Gardner
Street, Herstmonceux - ref. AMS5674/1/2
Thomas Wenham of Ninfield, blacksmith (cousin and heir of
Thomas Wenham of Herstmonceux, cooper deceased) sold the latter's
cooper's shop to Thomas Longhurst of Bexhill, weaver on 14 February
1787. Longhurst sold to Joseph Johnson of Herstmonceux peruke maker
on 30 December 1790 who demolished the shop, built a house and sold it on
26 May 1796 to his mortgagee Henry Hyland of Ashburnham, yeoman.
The house was sold by Hyland's daughter and heir Elizabeth Hyland
of Ninfield, spinster to Joseph Cryer of Boreham in Wartling,
carpenter on 28 July 1806 whose son and heir John Cryer of
Herstmonceux, baker sold to Richard Haffenden on 25 March 1829
