John WARD (c1650-1719)

and Anne STAMP (1651-1731)

Mr. John Ward and Mrs. Anne Stamp married on 29 January 1679/80 in Boxgrove, Sussex.  They raised their family in West Grinstead, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

John Ward's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He may have been buried on 19 June 1719 in West Grinstead.  The burial register records that he was John Ward, gent of Champions.  Might he have been baptised on 10 April 1652 in Cowfold and have been the son of Thomas Ward

Anne Stemp was baptised on 26 December 1651 in Boxgrove.  She was the daughter of Thomas Stemp and Mary.  She was buried on 30 March 1731 in West Grinstead.  The burial register records that Ann Ward was a widow from Champions.

My probable 7x Great Grandfather, Joseph Ward, married in 1710 and raised his family in Henfield, Sussex.  Henfield and West Grinstead border one another.  I would guess he was born in the 1680's, but he was not baptised in Henfield, nor would he seem to be part of this West Grinstead family.

John Ward and Anne Stamp had 8 known children:

  1. John Ward was baptised on 4 November 1680 in West Grinstead and buried there on 16 April 1681.

  2. Elisabeth Ward was baptised 16 March 1681/2 in West Grinstead and buried there on 11 October 1685.

  3. Anne Ward was baptised on 31 July 1684 in West Grinstead.

  4. Mary Ward was baptised on 20 May 1686 in West Grinstead.

  5. Elisabeth Ward was baptised on 28 June 1687 in West Grinstead.

  6. Sarah Ward was baptised on 7 May 1689 in West Grinstead.

  7. Thomas Ward was baptised on 8 June 1691 in West Grinstead.

  8. John Ward was baptised on 28 April 1693 in West Grinstead.  He may have been buried on 24 April 1728 in West Grinstead.  The burial register records that John Ward, gent was of Champions.
