Henry Ward

Mary Geere
married by banns on 27 November 1780 in Henfield, Sussex. He was then a bachelor and she a spinster and
sojourner. The witnesses to the marriage were Edward Stenning
and William Vinall. (They were not my direct ancestors.
Henry was the brother of my possible 5x Great Grandmother, Mary Ward.)
Henry
Ward was born on 3 August and baptised on 11 August 1754 in
Henfield. He was the son of
Thomas Ward
(1716-1783) and
Mary Caplin (1714-1755). A Henry Ward was buried on 3
April 1805 and another on 5 September 1812, both in Henfield.
Mary Geere's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.
She may have been baptised on 8 October 1758 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex and
have been the daughter of
Samuel Gear (1719-1795) and
Mary Terry
(1729-1796). Or she may have been baptised on 29 August 1761 in West
Grinstead, Sussex and have been the daughter of Richard Geer and
Hannah Killick. A Mary Ward was buried in Henfield on 5
April 1804.
Henry Ward and Mary Geere

Elizabeth Ward
was born on 22 April 1781 in Henfield. She may have been buried on 17 September
1781 in Henfield.

Ann Ward was born on 9 February 1783 in
Henfield. She may have been buried on 20 April 1800 in Henfield, but
the burial may also refer to the
Ann Ward
who was born in 1748 or the
Ann Ward
born in 1791.

Charles Ward
was baptised on 30 January 1785 in Henfield. His parents paid the 3
pence fee to have him baptised. He married
Mahala Vinall in 1804.

Phoebe Ward
was baptised on 14 January 1787 in Henfield. Her parents paid the 3
pence baptism fee.

Lucy Ward
was privately baptised, as she was ill, on 6 February 1790 in Henfield.
She married
Lancaster Lelliott

Lydia Ward
was baptised on 29 January 1792 in Henfield. Her parents paid the 3
pence baptism fee. She may have married John Vinall
by banns on 4 November 1816 in Brighton. He was then a bachelor and
she a spinster and they were both of Brighton.

Samuel Ward
was baptised on 9 February 1794 in Henfield. His parents were then
described as paupers and exempt from paying the baptism fee. He was
buried on 6 November 1795 in Henfield.

Philip Ward
was born on 7 February 1796. He died aged 73 years (according to the
burial register) and was buried on 8 May 1867 in Henfield.
Philip
married twice, firstly to Elizabeth Mobsby by licence on 5 January
1819 in Cowfold. He was then a bachelor of Henfield and she a
spinster of Cowfold.
Elizabeth was baptised on 20 October 1799 in
Cowfold and was the daughter of William Mobsby (1759-?) and
Sarah Bachelor. Elizabeth died aged 27 years and was buried on
15 April 1827 in Henfield.
Philip and Elizabeth had 4 known
children:

was baptised on 4 July 1819 in Henfield. At the time his father
was a labourer of Terry's Farm in Henfield. Henry probably died as
an infant.

was baptised on 16 July 1820 in Henfield. At the time his father
was a labourer of Church Street in Henfield.

James Ward
was baptised on 6 May 1821 in Henfield. At the time his father was
a labourer of Church Street.

William Ward
was baptised on 13 April 1823 in Henfield. At the time his father
was a bricklayer of Henfield.
Philip then married Frances Pollard by
banns on 12 June 1834 in Henfield. He was a widower and she a
spinster and they were both of Henfield. The witnesses to the
marriage were
Edward Woolgar and Sarah Woolgar.
Frances was
baptised on 23 December 1804 in Cowfold and was the daughter of James
Pollard and Sarah Martin. She died aged 62 years and was
buried on 10 February 1867 in Henfield.

Harriet Ward
was born on 4 February 1798. She may have married William King
by banns on 26 October 1818 in Brighton. He was then a bachelor and
she a spinster and they were both of Brighton.

was born on 20 October 1799.

Charlotte Ward
was baptised on 27 June 1802 in Henfield.
