Henfield

My Ward Ancestors

A 5x Great Grandmother was Mary Ward who was born 1746 in Henfield, Sussex. In 1773 she married William Stilve (later known as Stillaway), in Henfield.

Mary was the daughter of Thomas Ward and Mary Caplin. He was born and died in Henfield, but she was from nearby Ashington. Thomas was the son of Joseph Ward and Mary Verrall.

Please note, I can not be certain that Mary Ward was my ancestor. Her possible Grandson, Samuel Stillaway, was said to have been born about 1814/5 in Henfield and have been the son of William Stillaway, but I have not found his baptism. There would seem to have been only one William Stillaway around at the time who could have been his father, but until I find further evidence, I can only speculate who his ancestors may have been.
