Thomas WADY (1691-1774)

and Sarah OVERINGTON (?-1764)

Thomas Wady and Sarah Overington married on 24 May 1720 in Billingshurst, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Thomas Wady was baptised on 13 October 1691 in Billingshurst, Sussex.  He was the son of Thomas Wady (1669-1744) and Elizabeth Greenfield (?-1744).  Thomas was buried on 15 March 1774 in Billingshurst.

Sarah Overington's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She was buried on 13 November 1764 in Billingshurst.  The burial register noted that she was the wife of Thomas Wadey.  Might she have been baptised on 30 June 1695 in Rudgwick, Sussex, the daughter of William Overington and Sarah Wales?

Thomas Wady and Sarah Overington had 6 known children:

  1. Mary Wady was baptised on 10 April 1721 in Billingshurst.

Mary may have had an illegitimate child:

    1. Ann Wady was born on 20 August 1746 and baptised on 14 September 1746 in Billingshurst.

Mary did have a cousin Mary Wady baptised in nearby Pulborough in 1730.

  2. John Wady was baptised on 19 August 1722 in Billingshurst.

  3. Arthur Wady was baptised on ?6 November 1726 in Billingshurst.  He may have been buried on 30 January 1778 in Billingshurst.

  4. Levi Wady was baptised on 27 December 1728 in Billingshurst.  A Levi Wady was buried in Billingshurst on 8 October 1797.

Levi married Hannah Marrel or Marrch on 14 October 1755 in Billingshurst.  They were both then of Billingshurst.  The witnesses to their marriage were George Greenfield and Sarah Wadey.

Hannah was buried on 7 January 1784 in Billingshurst and it was noted in the burial register that she was the wife of Levi Wadey from Chiltington.

Levi and Hannah had the following children:

    1. Levy Wadey was baptised on 27 November 1757 in Billingshurst.  He died aged 78 years and was buried on 21 July 1835 in Billingshurst.  The burial register noted he was from Chichester.

    2. James Wadey was baptised on 16 October 1763 in Billingshurst.

  5. Elias Wady was baptised on 6 October 1733 in Billingshurst and buried there as an infant on 23 July 1734.

  6. Sarah Wady was baptised on 18 July 1741 in Billingshurst.
