and Mary CLEMENT (?-?)
Luke Wady and Mary Clement married by
certificate on 4 May 1727 in Wiggonholt, Sussex. They were both then
said to have been of Pulborough, Sussex. (They were
not my direct ancestors.)
Luke Wady was baptised on 2 March 1702/3 in Billingshurst,
Sussex. He was the son of
Thomas Wady (1669-1744) and
Elizabeth Greenfield (?-1744). The baptism
register noted that his father was a weaver. A Luke Wady
was buried on 1 October 1782 in Pulborough and unfortunately no further
information was recorded in the burial register. I think his son Luke
was buried in 1775, as his wife Priscilla had an illegitimate child in 1777.
Luke junior and wife Pricilla also had a son Luke born in 1760 and he would
seem to have married in 1789. Therefore, I think the 1782 burial is
that of Luke born in 1703.
Mary Clement's date and place of
birth/baptism are unknown, to me. Presumably she died after 1733.
I have not found a possible burial for her in the Pulborough burial
Luke Wady and Mary
3 known children:
Hannah Wady was baptised on 14 January 1727/8 in
Mary Wady was baptised on 13 September 1730 in
Pulborough. She may have been buried on 3 January 1758 in Pulborough.
The burial register noted that she was the wife of Richard
Comper. However, she did have a cousin
baptised in nearby Billingshurst in 1721.
Mary may have married Richard Comper on 4 January 1753
in Pulborough. Richard next married Elizabeth Steer
on 5 November 1758 in Pulborough.
Richard and Mary had the following children:
Mary Comper was buried on 26 August 1753 in
Pulborough. Only her father's name was noted in the burial
Henry Comper was baptised on 23 February 1755 in
Pulborough. Only his father's name was noted in the baptism
was baptised on 7 December 1733 in Pulborough. He married
Priscilla Hayler in
1759. (They have their own page.)
