Edward WADEY (1764-1834)

and Ann BARNET (1771-1856)

 

Edward Wadey and Ann Barnet married by banns on 10 October 1792 in Thakeham, Sussex.  He was then from Chiltington and she was of Thakeham.  The witnesses to their marriage were Richard Barnet and Edward Richardson.

Edward Wady was baptised on 19 February 1764 in Pulborough.  He was the son of Luke Wady (1733-1775) and Priscilla Hayler (1740-1827).  He died aged 70 years and was buried on 14 December 1834 in Portslade, Sussex.

Anne Barnet was baptised on 20 October 1771 in Thakeham, Sussex.  She was the daughter of Richard Barnet and Sarah.  Ann died aged 84 years and was buried on 29 April 1856 in Portslade.  When the 1851 census was recorded she was a 77 year old widow living alone in Portslade.

 

Edward Wadey and Ann Barnet had 6 known children:

  1. Harriott Wady was baptised on 6 July 1794 in West Chiltington.

    As Harriet Wadey she married Edward Still by banns on 11 October 1813 in Portslade.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster who married with the consent of Edward Wadey.

  2. James Wady was baptised on 7 August 1796 in in West Chiltington.

    He married Elizabeth Humphry on 18 May 1822 in Wiggonholt, Sussex.  He was then from Portslade.

  3. Luke Wady was baptised on 12 May 1799 in West Chiltington.

    Luke married Mary Mitchell by banns on 24 February 1821 in Portslade.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster from Hangleton.

    Mary was baptised on 21 April 1799 in Fletching, Sussex and was the daughter of John Mitchell and Mary.  She died aged 64 years and was buried on 2 December 1864 in Portslade.

    When the 1851 census was recorded the couple and 4 children (Luke, Richard, Eliza and Henry) were living at Cobden, Sullington, Sussex.  Luke was a 51 year old agricultural labourer and Mary was 52.  He gave his place of birth as West Chiltington and she as Fletching.  Their 4 children were born in Portslade.

    Luke and Mary had the following children:

    1. Anne Wadey was baptised on 7 October 1821 in Hangleton.  The baptism register noted her father was a labourer.

    2. Edward Wadey was baptised on 8 December 1822 in Portslade.  The baptism register noted his father was a labourer.

    3. Luke Wadey was baptised on 21 November 1824 in Portslade.  The baptism register noted his father was a shepherd.  In 1851 he was an unmarried 26 year old agricultural labourer.

    4. Mary Wadey was baptised on 30 July 1826 in Portslade.  The baptism register noted her father was a shepherd.

    5. Esther Wadey was baptised on 23 March 1828 in Portslade.  The baptism register noted her father was a shepherd.

    6. Walter Wadey was baptised on 31 October 1830 in Portslade.  The baptism register noted his father was a shepherd.

    7. Richard Wadey was baptised on 26 January 1834 in Portslade.  The baptism register noted his father was a shepherd.  In 1851 he was a 17 year old agricultural labourer.

    8. Eliza Wadey was baptised on 22 December 1839 in Portslade.  The baptism register noted her father was a shepherd.  In 1851 she was an 11 year old scholar.

    9. Henry Wadey was baptised on 13 March 1842 in Portslade.  The baptism register noted his father was a labourer.  In 1851 he was 7 years old.

  4. Ann Wady was baptised on 15 November 1801 in West Chiltington.

  5. Mary Wadey was baptised on 2 March 1806 in Portslade, Sussex.

  6. Hester Wadey was baptised in January 1809 in Portslade.

    Hester married John Jones by banns on 29 October 1831 in Portslade.  She was then a spinster and he a bachelor and mariner.
