Edward WADY (1700-1780)

and Jane SNASHALL (1706-1779)

 

Edward Wady and Jane Snashal married on 9 May 1727 in Billingshurst, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Edward Wady was baptised on 30 August 1700 in Billinghurst, Sussex. He was the son of Thomas Wady (1669-1744) and Elizabeth Greenfield (?-1744).  The baptism register noted his father was a weaver.  Edward died aged 80 years and was buried on 1 March 1780 in Billingshurst.

Jane Snashall was baptised on 13 December 1706 in West Chiltington, Sussex.  She was the daughter of John Snashall (1680-1757) and Mary Bishop (c1680-1728).  Jane died aged 73 years and was buried on 17 November 1779 in Billingshurst.

 

Edward Wady and Jane Snashall had 9 known children:

  1. Daniel Wady was baptised on 8 November 1728 in Billingshurst.  He may have been buried on 10 June 1792 in Billingshurst.  The burial register noted Daniel Wadey was a pauper.

    Daniel may have married Mary sometime before or about 1753.

    A Mary Wadey was buried on 28 June 1808 and another on 29 December 1811, both in Billingshurst, and neither entry in the burial register gave any further information.

    Daniel and Mary had the following children:

    1. James Wady was baptised on 22 October 1753 in Pulborough.  Only his father's name was noted in the baptism register.

    2. Mary Wady was baptised on 12 November 1755 in Billingshurst.

    3. Ann Wady was baptised on 20 March 1759 in Pulborough.  Only her father's name was noted in the baptism register.

    4. Dinah Wadey was baptised on 4 July 1762 in Billingshurst.

    5. Chalcroft Wadey was baptised on 2 August 1765 in Billingshurst.

  2. John Wady was baptised on 17 February 1731/2 in Billingshurst.

  3. Betty Wady was baptised on 21 February 1734/5 in Billingshurst.

  4. Jane Wady was baptised on 29 March 1737 in Billingshurst.

    Jane married James Cover on 11 November 1759 in Billingshurst.  He was a sojourner and she was of Billingshurst.  The witnesses to their marriage were Edward Wadey and Elizabeth Wadey.

    James and Jane had the following children:

    1. James Cover was baptised on 22 May 1760 in Billingshurst.

    2. Wadey Cover was baptised on 22 October 1761 in Billingshurst and buried there on 8 November 1761.

    3. Edward Cover was baptised on 6 November 1763 in Billingshurst.

    4. Jane Cover was baptised on 15 November 1765 in Billingshurst.

    5. Thomas Cover was baptised on 6 January 1768 in Billingshurst.

  5. Edward Wady was baptised on 9 December 1739 in Billingshurst and buried there on 28 December 1750.

  6. Mary Wady was baptised on 1 November 1742 in Billingshurst.

    Mary may have had the following child:

    1. Harry Wade was baptised on 12 October 1762 in Billingshurst.

    As Mary Wade she may have married John Tulley by licence on 21 November 1765 in Billingshurst.  The witnesses to their marriage were Thomas Wade and Charles Tulley.  John was then from Bolney, Sussex.

    Or as Mary Wadey she may have married Thomas Woods by banns on 2 October 1766 in Billinghurst.  He was a bachelor and sojourner and she was a spinster.  The witnessed to their marriage were Edward Wadey and Thomas Heward.

  7. Sarah Wady was born on 1 February 1744/5 and baptised on 17 February 1744/5 in Billingshurst.  Only her father's named was recorded in the baptism register.

    Sarah may have married John Netley by banns on 30 July 1769 in Billingshurst.  He was a bachelor and sojourner and she was a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were William Joyes and Edward Wadey.

  8. Ann Wady was baptised on 20 April 1747 in Billingshurst and buried there on 7 December 1750.

  9. Hannah Wady was baptised on 10 October 1749 in Billingshurst.  She died aged 70 years and was buried on 2 March 1820 in Billingshurst, as Hannah Voice.

    Hannah married 3 times, firstly to John Bristow on 12 February 1771 in Billingshurst.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were Edward Wadey and William West.

    John may have been buried on 31 March 1783 in Billingshurst.  The burial register noted he was from the workhouse.

    John and Hannah had the following children:

    1. Hannah Bristow was baptised on 5 March 1775 in Billingshurst.  She died aged 4 years and was buried on 25 July 1779 in Billingshurst.

    2. Jane Bristow was baptised on 2 April 1778 in Billingshurst.

    3. Mary Bristow was baptised on 9 April 1780 in Billingshurst.

    4. John Bristow was baptised on 31 Marcy 1782 in Billingshurst.

    As Hannah Bristow, widow, she next married Luke Greenfield, widower, on 28 August 1787 in Billingshurst.  The witnesses to their marriage were Robert Parsons and Foice Champion.

    Luke may have been buried on 15 August 1792 in Billingshurst.

    Luke and Hannah had the following children:

    1. Edward Greenfield was baptised on 10 April 1788 in Billingshurst and buried there on 11 April 1788.  He was a twin.

    2. Ann Greenfield was baptised on 10 April  1788 in Billingshurst and buried there on 11 April 1788.  She was a twin.

    3. James Greenfield was baptised on 22 February 1790 in Billingshurst.

    Hannah then married Richard Voice by banns on 8 July 1796 in Billingshurst.  The witnesses to their marriage were Sarah Greenfield and James Champion.
