Edward TUTT (c1615-1656)

and Margaret (?-?)

 

Edward Tutt and Margaret were my 9x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They may have married before or about 1640, but so far no marriage has been found.  Nothing appears in the Sussex Family History Group's marriage index nor in the IGI for Sussex. 

Edward Tutt's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He may have been buried on 11 July 1656 in Chiddingly, Sussex.

Margaret's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  As Margaret Tutt, widow she married Richard More of Chalvington, Sussex on 15 April 1661 in Chiddingly.

 

Edward Tutt and Margaret had 3 known children:

  1. Chiddingly church - 21 March 2006Susan Tutt was baptised on 3 January 1640/1 in Chiddingly, Sussex. Only her father's name was recorded in the baptism register.  She married John Wood on 20 December 1662 in Hailsham, Sussex.  They may have had the following child:

    1. Margaret Wood was baptised on 20 April 1662 in Ticehurst, Sussex.

  2. Esther Tutt was baptised on 2 November 1645 in Chiddingly.  Only her father's name was recorded in the baptism register  She married Thomas Verrall on 2 August 1669 in Ripe, Sussex.

  3. Edward Tutt, my 8x Great Grandfather, was baptised on 9 December 1649 in Chiddingly.  Only his father's name was recorded in the baptism register.  He married Sarah Wilmshurst (1656-1717) in 1679.  (They have their own page.)

 

Could the following be related:

Thomas Tutt married Alice Tutt on 14 September 1607 in Hellingly, Sussex.

Thomas Tutt married Susanna Savage on 31 July 1632 in Hellingly.

Thomas Cramp married Ann Tutt by licence on 8 May 1636 in Laughton, Sussex.  He was of Chiddingly and she of Laughton.

Richard Tutt married Adrienne Machin on 30 January 1636/7 in Chiddingly.  Richard may have been buried in Chiddingly on 12 March 1660.

Thomas Tutt married Ann Allchin on 6 February 1639/40 in Heathfield.

In 1681 there was a Simon Tutt, tallow chandler living in Hailsham, Sussex.
