William TULLETT (1785-1870)

and Ann CONSTABLE (c1788-1852)

William Tullett and Ann Constable married on 21 December 1809 in Slaugham, Sussex.  At the time they were both of Slaugham.  The witnesses to their marriage were John Baker, Mary Baker and John Hards.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  William was the nephew of my 5x Great Grandfather, John Tullett.)

William Tullett was baptised on 8 April 1785 in Cuckfield, Sussex.  He was the son of William Tullett (1738-1826) and Catherine Peters (c1739-1815).  He was buried on 20 December 1870 in Cuckfield.  William was an agricultural labourer.

Ann Constable was born about 1788 in Richmond, Surrey.  She was buried on 1 March 1852 in Cuckfield.

William Tullett and Ann Constable had 8 known children:

1. Ann Tulett was baptised on 27 January 1811 in Bolney, Sussex.

   Ann married John Small on 11 October 1835 in Clayton, Sussex.

2. Harriet Tullett was baptised on 16 February 1812 in Cuckfield.

   Harriet married James Farncombe on 13 November 1833 in Pyceombe, Sussex

3. Mary Tullett was baptised on 10 December 1815 in Cuckfield, at which time her father was a labourer of Wigperry.  She married David Steele in 1834.  (They have their own page.)

4. Edward Tullett was born about 1819 in Cuckfield.  He died in 1903.  So far I have not found his baptism, so can not be sure he was part of this family.  Unless he was the Edward Tullett born on 17 September 1814 and baptised on 6 November 1814 in Crawley, Sussex, but I don't think they were one and the same.

   Edward married Susan Anscombe on 7 April 1841 in Cuckfield.  He was then a bachelor and labourer and she a spinster.  They were both of age and both of Cuckfield.  There fathers were named as William Tulett and John Anscombe.  The witnesses to their marriage were Joseph Holman and Sarah Tulett.

   Susan was baptised on 29 September 1822 in Cuckfield and was the daughter of John Anscombe and Sarah.  She died aged 62 years in Clayton, Sussex and was buried on 18 January 1883 in Keymer, Sussex.

   Edward and Susan had 10 known children:

   1. Mary Ann Tullett was baptised on 11 July 1841 in Cuckfield.  Mary Ann married William Sayers on 24 October 1860 in Hurstpierpoint.

   2. James Tullett was baptised on 15 October 1843 in Keymer.

   3. William Tullett was baptised on 1 February 1846 in Keymer, at which time his parents were of New Close.  In 1861 he was a 14 year old carter boy living at Golds Bridge Nole in Hurstpierpoint.  William married Jane King on 14 July 1872 in Hurstpierpoint.  Jane was baptised on 14 February 1841 in Hurstpierpoint and was the daughter of John King (1814-1882) and Lydia Richardson (1813-1865).

   4. Edward Tullett was baptised on 20 August 1848 in Clayton, at which time his parents were of New Close Hill.

   5. Eliza Tullet was baptised on 11 May 1851 in Keymer.

   6. Esther Tulett was baptised on 4 June 1854 in Hurstpierpoint.

   7. Ellen Tulett was baptised on 2 August 1857 in Hurstpierpoint.

   8. Grace Tulett was baptised on 4 September 1859 in Hurstpierpoint.

   9. Susan Tulett was baptised on 4 May 1862 in Hurstpierpoint.

   10. Emily Tulett was baptised on 2 July 1865 in Hurstpierpoint.

5. Sarah Tullett was baptised on 18 February 1821 in Cuckfield.

   Sarah married Joseph Holman on 22 October 1841 in Cuckfield.  He was a bachelor and labourer and she a spinster.  They were both of full age and both of Cuckfield.  The witnesses were Walter Holman and Sarah Holman.

   Joseph was born about 1817 in Cuckfield and was the son of John Holman.

6. William Tullett was baptised on 2 November 1823 in Cuckfield.  He was buried there on 3 October 1898.

   William married Ellen Pierce on 27 November 1844 in Cuckfield.

   Ellen was born about 1826 in Shipley, Sussex and was the daughter of Richard Pierce.

   William and Ellen had 2 known children:

   1. Ann Tullett was born about 1846 in Cuckfield.  She was a 5 year old scholar in 1851.

   2. Ellen Tullett was baptised on 14 February 1851 in Cuckfield.  She was 2 years old in 1851.  In 1861 she was a 12 year old scholar.

7. Emma Tullett was baptised on 24 September 1826 in Cuckfield.

8. James Tullett was baptised on 3 December 1832 in Cuckfield and buried there on 17 July 1833, aged 10 months.
