Richard TULLETT
(1827-1913)
and Caroline HILLS (1830-1904)

Richard Tullett
and Caroline Hills married in the third quarter of 1851 in the
Horsham registration district of Sussex. (They were not my direct
ancestors.)
Richard Tulitt
was baptised on 21 October 1827 in West Grinstead, Sussex. He was the
son of Peter Tulett (1792-?) and Elizabeth Worsfield
(c1795-?). He died aged 86 years and his death was registered in the
fourth quarter of 1913 in the Horsham registration district. When the
1841 census was recorded he was 14 years old and living with his parents and
elder sister, Caroline, at Monks Gate Common, Nuthurst. His
father was then a sawyer. At the time of the 1851 census he was
an unmarried 23 year old agricultural labourer living with his parents at
Monks Common. (Another
Richard Tullett,
born in 1826 in West Grinstead, married
Caroline Wadey
in 1847.)
Caroline Hills
was born in Nuthurst, Sussex and baptised on 4 April 1830 in Horsham,
Sussex. She was the daughter of Richard Hills (c1800-?) and
Hester Tyler (1810-?). She died aged 74 years and her death was
registered in the third quarter of 1904 in the Horsham registration district.
When the 1851 census was recorded she was an unmarried 21 year living with
her parents at Hammer in Lower Beeding, Sussex. Her father was then a
labourer. Caroline's maternal grandparents were John Tyler and
Esther Dinnage.
The couple and
their 3 children were living at Monks Common, Nuthurst in 1861 and Richard
was a sawyer. In 1871 Richard and Caroline and 6 sons were still
living in Nuthurst and he was still a sawyer. In 1881 the couple and 5
children were living at Monks Common. The 1891 census records that
Richard and Caroline together with their youngest 2 sons were living at what
looks like 3 Thrift Cottage in Nuthurst. In 1901 the couple were
living alone at 3 Thrift Cottage and Richard was then a 73 year old wood
sawyer.
