Peter TULLETT (1784-?)

and Elizabeth Dearling TINGLEY (1788-?)

 

Peter Tullett and Elizabeth Dearling Tingley married by banns on 23 February 1808 in Slaugham, Sussex.  They were both then of Slaugham.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Peter Tulett was baptised on 3 September 1784 in Worth, Sussex.  He was the son of Edward Tulett (1745-1816) and Jane Smith (1750-1816).  He died between 1841 and 1846.

Elizabeth Tingley was baptised on 23 November 1788 in Horley, Surrey.  She was the daughter of Anne Tingley.  Elizabeth may have died aged 74 years and have buried on 31 July 1860 in Worth.

When the 1841 census was recorded the couple and 4 of their children were living in the Old Poor House in Worth.  In 1851 Elizabeth was a 67 year old widow living in Workhouse Road, Worth, along with her 2 sons and a year old granddaughter, Ann Tulett.

 

Peter Tullett and Elizabeth Tingley had 12 known children:

  1. Mary Tulett was born on 1 July 1808 and baptised on 31 July 1808 in Worth, Sussex.

  2. James Tulett was born on 10 June 1810 and baptised on 1 July 1810 in Worth.

    James married Ann Brooker by banns on 4 September 1839 in Worth.  He was a bachelor and labourer and she was a spinster.  Their fathers were named as Peter Tulett and James Brooker who were both labourers.  The witnesses to their marriage were John Brooker and Jane Tulett.

    James and Ann had the following daughter:

    1. Emma Tullett was baptised on 5 May 1844 in Worth.

  3. Elizabeth Tulett was born on 16 September 1812 and baptised on 25 October 1812 in Worth.

    Elizabeth may have married James Denman on 16 November 1834 in Worth.  The witnesses to their marriage were William Biggs and Elizabeth Grey.

  4. William Tulett was baptised on 24 April 1814 in Worth.  He died aged 48 years and was buried on 28 December 1862 in Worth.

    William married Rebecca Clifton by banns on 6 June 1838 in Worth.  He was a bachelor and labourer and she was a spinster and minor.  Their fathers were named as Peter Tulett and John Clifton who were both labourers.  The witnesses to their marriage were Edward Dench and Mary Bun?.

  5. Thomas Tulett was baptised on 7 April 1816 in Worth.  He died aged 73 years and was buried on 19 January 1889 in Worth.

    Thomas may have married Eliza Penfold on 25 March 1839 in Cuckfield.  He was then of full age and a labourer.  Eliza was an 18 year old spinster.  They were both of Cuckfield.  Jane Tulet was a witness to their marriage.

    Eliza was born about 1821 and was the daughter of James Penfold.

    Thomas and Eliza had the following children:

    1. Elizabeth Tullett was baptised on 1 March 1840 in Worth.  She married John Box in 1865.  (They will have their own page.)

    2. Jane Tullett was baptised on 4 September 1842 in Worth.

  6. Ann Tulett was baptised on 28 February 1819 in Worth.

    Ann married James Friend by banns on 5 December 1838 in Worth.  He was a bachelor and labourer and she was a spinster and minor.  Their fathers were named as George Friend and Peter Tulett who were both labourers.  The witnesses to their marriage were William Friend and Mary Tullett.

  7. Jane Tullett was baptised on 3 December 1820 in Worth.

    Jane may have married James Penfold on 6 November 1841 in Cuckfield.  He was then a bachelor and a labourer and she was a spinster.  The were both of Cuckfield.  The witnesses to their marriage were Thomas Tulett and Eliza Tullett.

    James was born about 1820 and was the son of James Penfold.

  8. Eliza Tulett was baptised on 29 September 1822 in Worth.  She was said to he 15 years old when the 1841 census was recorded and she was then living with her parents.

    Before her marriage Eliza had an illigitimate daughter:

    1. Charlotte Tullett was baptised on 7 January 1849 in Worth.  Charlotte married Abraham Gorring on 12 April 1873 in Crawley Down, Sussex.

    Eliza married Stephen Tingley by banns on 17 February 1849 in Worth.  He was a bachelor and labourer and she a spinster.  Their fathers were named as James Tingley and Peter Tullet who were both deceased.  The witnesses to their marriage were James Tulett and Ann Tulett.

  9. Peter Tullett was baptised on 20 February 1825 in Worth.  He was said to be a 15 year old agricultural labourer in 1841.

    Peter married Sarah Vigor by banns on 3 April 1846 in Worth.  He was a bachelor and labourer and she was a spinster.  Their fathers were named as Peter Tulett, deceased and Richard Vigar, a farmer.  The witnesses to their marriage were Isaac Tulett and Mary Ann Brooker.

  10. Isaac Tullett was baptised on 19 November 1826 in Worth.  He died aged 70 years and was buried on 18 February 1897 in Worth.

    Issac married Elizabeth Braizer by banns on 7 April 1849 in Worth.  He was a bachelor and labourer and she a spinster.  Their fathers were named Peter Tulett, deceased and Robert Dench, a labourer.  The witnesses to their marriage were James B? and Mary Dench.

  11. Richard Tulett was baptised on 22 June 1828 in Worth.  He was a 13 year old agricultural labourer in 1841.  In 1851 he was a 22 year old agricultural labourer, living at home with his mother and younger brother. 

  12. Stephen Tulett was baptised on 2 May 1830 in Worth.  He was 11 years old in 1841.  In 1851 he was a 21 year old agricultural labourer.

    Stephen married Martha Payne by banns on 31 December 1859 in Worth.  He was a 29 year old bachelor and labourer, whilst she was a 22 year old spinster.  Their fathers were named as Peter Tulett, a deceased labourer and William Payne a labourer.  The witnesses to their marriage were Stephen Standing and Sophia Standing.

    Stephen and Martha had the following children:

    1. Anne Tullett was baptised on 6 May 1860 in Worth.

    2. Elizabeth Tullett was baptised on 2 February 1862 in Worth.

    3. Eliza Tullett was baptised on 4 September 1864 in Worth.

    4. William Tullett was baptised on 2 February 1868 in Worth.
