John TULLETT
(1775-1843)
and Rachel SAYERS (1779-1860)

John Tulett
and Rachel Sayers married by banns on 22 April 1799 at the parish
church of St. James in Ashurst, Sussex. He was then a bachelor and she
a spinster and they were both of Ashurst. (They were not my direct
ancestors. John was the nephew of my 5x great grandfather.)
John Tullett
was baptised on 15 January 1775 at the parish church of St. Andrew in
Nuthurst, Sussex. He was the son
Edward Tullett
(1736-1803) and
Elizabeth Whiting (1740-1793). John died aged 68 years and
was buried on 5 March 1843 in West Grinstead, Sussex. He was a
labourer.
Rachel Sayers
was baptised on 22 January 1779 at the parish church of St. Margaret in
Warnham, Sussex. She was the daughter of Henry Sayers and
Sarah. Rachel was buried on 28 December 1860 in West Grinstead.
When the 1841
census was recorded the couple were living in West Grinstead, at what looks
like Hook Mile, but may have been Hookshile. John was then an
agricultural labourer. Also with them on census night were 11 year old
servant Eliza Patching and 15 year old Richard Tullett who was
an agricultural labourer. The family of their son William was living
in the next property on the enumerators route.
John Tullett and Rachel Sayers had
5 known children:

William Tulet
was baptised on 22 September 1799 in Ashurst. He married
Charlotte Woodman
in 1824. (They have their own page.)

Sarah Tulet
was baptised on 3 January 1802 in Ashurst.
Sarah married William
Patching by banns on 15 September 1822 in West Grinstead. They
were both then of West Grinstead. The witnesses were William
Tullett and Elizabeth Monnery. William and Sarah had the
following children:

was baptised on 2 February 1823 in Shipley.

was baptised on 26 June 1825 in Shipley.

Patching was baptised on 21 October 1827 in Shipley.

Eliza Patching
was baptised on 28 February 1830 in Shipley.

John Patching
was baptised on 5 May 1833 in Shipley.

Ellen Patching
was baptised on 19 April 1825 in Shipley.

was baptised on 11 June 1837 in Shipley.

Patching was born on 4 October 1840 and baptised on 1 November 1840 in
Shipley.

Tulet was baptised on 1 January 1826 in West Grinstead. He married
Caroline
Wadey in 1847. (They have their own page.)

William Tulett
who was born about 1824/5 in Brighton and married
Lucy Laker
in 1850? Mary
married Thomas Newnham by banns on 19 October 1830 in Henfield.
He was then a bachelor and she a spinster and they were both of Henfield.
When the 1881 census was recorded Mary was a 71 year old widow living with
her married daughter Caroline at Dragons Farm House in Cowfold.
Thomas and Mary had the following children:

Jane Newnham
was baptised on 8 October 1837 in West Grinstead.

John Newnham
was born about 1838. He married Emily Turrell on 15 May 1866
in West Grinstead. He was then a 28 year old bachelor and labourer.
She was a 21 year old widow and servant from Dorking in Surrey. The
witnesses to the marriage were Nelson Brownings and Jane
Thompson. Emily was the daughter of John Thompson.

Eliza Newnham
was baptised on 6 August 1843 in West Grinstead. She married
Charles Challen on 26 August 1865 in West Grinstead. She was
then a 23 year old spinster and servant and he was a 24 year old bachelor
and gardener. The witnesses were John Newnham and Jane
Newnham. Charles was the son of Charles Challen a
labourer

Newnham was baptised on 18 May 1845 in West Grinstead.

Harriet
Newnham was baptised on 4 February 1849 in West Grinstead.

Caroline
Newnham was born about 1851 in West Grinstead. She married
William Newman on 29 November 1873 in West Grinstead. She was
then a 23 year old spinster and servant and he was a 26 year old bachelor
and labourer of Cowfold. The witnesses to the marriage were James
Newman and Harriet Newnham. William was born about 1848
in Cowfold and was the son of William Newnham a labourer.

John Tulet
was baptised on 8 September 1816 in Ashurst at which time his father was a
labourer. He died aged 71 years and was buried on 19 November 1887
in West Grinstead. John married Diane Manwell on 12 May 1838
in West Grinstead. He was then a bachelor and labourer and she a
spinster and minor. Their fathers were named as John Tullett
and James Manwell who were both labourers. The witnesses to
their marriage were James Tullett and Edward Freeman.
Diana died aged 58 years and was buried on 1
February 1877 in West Grinstead. Her name was recorded in the burial
register as Diana Tulett. The family were living in West
Grinstead in 1841 and John was an agricultural labourer.
When the 1861 census was recorded the family were living at Hookshill in
West Grinstead and John was a labourer. Also living with them was
Diana unmarried 50 year old sister, Harriott Manwell who was
described as an idiot. The next property on the enumerator's
route was inhabited by the family of
Henry Tulett
and his wife Harriott. John and
Diana had the following children:

Maria Tullet
was baptised on 24 February 1839 in West Grinstead, at which time her
father was a labourer of West Grinstead. She was 2 years old in 1841.

Sarah Tulett
was baptised on 11 July 1841 in West Grinstead, at which time her father
was a labourer of West Grinstead.. She was 1 week old when the 1841 census was
recorded.

John Tulett
was baptised on 7 May 1843 in West Grinstead, at which time his father
was a labourer of West Grinstead. He died as an infant and was
buried on 13 May 1843 in West Grinstead.

Jane Tulett
was baptised on 21 April 1844 in West Grinstead, at which time her
father was a labourer of West Grinstead.

Mary Tulett
was baptised on 3 January 1847 in West Grinstead, at which time her
father was a labourer of West Grinstead.

James Tulett
was baptised on 14 October 1849 in West Grinstead, at which time his
father was a labourer of West Grinstead. When the 1871 census was
recorded he was an unmarried 21 year old labourer and the eldest of his
siblings living at home.
James married Caroline Goldsmith on 9 November 1872 in West
Grinstead. The witnesses to the marriage were John Tulett
and Joseph Goldsmith.
Caroline was born about 1856 in Nuthurst, Sussex.
In 1881 the couple and their 2 daughters were living at Joles in West
Grinstead and James was an agricultural labourer.
James and Caroline had the following children:

Tulett was baptised on 15 July 1874 in West Grinstead. She was
a 6 year old scholar in 1881.

James Tulett
was baptised on 25 July 1875 in West Grinstead.

was baptised on 25 February 1877 in West Grinstead. She was a 4
year old scholar in 1881.

Ellen Tulett
was baptised on 2 April 1878 in West Grinstead.

Clara Tulett
was baptised on 13 February 1880 in West Grinstead.

John Tullett
was baptised on 26 March 1882 in West Grinstead.

Alice
Tullett was baptised on 31 August 1884 in West Grinstead.

Caroline
Tulett was baptised on 25 January 1852 in West Grinstead and buried
there on 9 February 1854, aged 2 years

Thomas
Tulett was baptised on 27 July 1858 in West Grinstead and buried
there on 3 February 1860, aged 18 months.

Walter
Tulett was baptised on 4 January 1862 in Woodmancote, Sussex.
He married Lucy. Lucy was born about 1860 in Ardingly, Sussex.
When the 1891 census was recorded the couple and their children were
living in Hemmingden Lane in West Hoathly and Walter Tullett was
a 29 year old brickmaker who gave his place of birth as Partridge Green,
Sussex. In 1901 the family were living in 1 Sussex Cottages, West
Hoathly and Walter was a brickyard labourer.
Walter and Lucy had the following children:

Ellen M.
Tullett was born about 1883 in Sussex. She was an 8 year old
scholar in 1891. The 1901 census records that she was 18 year old
Nellie Tullett and the eldest of her siblings living at home.

Florence Emily
Tullett was baptised on 29 March 1885 in West Grinstead. She was
a 6 year old scholar in 1891. She
married Edwin Smith in 1904.

Mary Jane
Tullett was born about 1887 in Sussex. She was a 4 year old
scholar in 1891.

Walter G.
Tullett was born in 1890 in West Hoathly. He was 11 months old
when the 1891 census was recorded. In 1901 he was 10 years old.

Lucy Tullett
was born about 1891 in West Hoathly. She was 9 years old in 1901.
-
Emily
Tullett was born about 1895 in West Hoathly. In 1901 she was 6
years old.

Joey Tullett
was born about 1897 in West Hoathly. He was 4 years old in 1901.

Elizabeth
Tullett was born about 1900 in Haywards Heath, Sussex. When
the 1901 census was recorded she was a year old.

Elizabeth
Tulett was born about 1866 in Shoreham, Sussex. In 1871 she
was
a 16 year old scholar.

Louisa
Tulett was born about 1871 in West Grinstead. She was a 10
year old scholar in 1871.

James Tulet
was baptised on 14 March 1820 in West Grinstead at which time his father
was a labourer of West Grinstead. He married Frances Osborne
