John TULLET
(1734-1809)
and Elizabeth MICHELL (c1735-1815)

John
Tullett and Elizabeth Michell were my 5x Great Grandparents.
(Click
here
to see their place in my pedigree chart.) The were married by banns by
the Rector John Bristed on 27 April 1760 in the parish church of St.
Mary's in Slaugham, Sussex. They were both then of Slaugham.
John was described as a labourer and signed his name. Elizabeth made
her X mark. The witnesses were John Godsmark and William
Hale, who both signed their names. The banns were published on 6,
13 and 20 April 1760 in Slaugham.
John Tullett was baptised on 23 March 1733/4 in Slaugham. He
was the fifth child and second son of
Peter Tullet
(c1700-1749) and
Elizabeth Gratwick
(1700-1786). John died a poor man aged 75 years and was buried on 3
August 1809 in Slaugham. On 14 February 1765, John was most probably a
witness to the marriage of James Burchall and Mary Sheppard in
Slaugham.
Elizabeth Michell's date and place of birth/baptism are not certain.
After her husband's death she may have gone to live with her son James
Tulet in Cuckfield, as she died there age 79 years and was buried back
in Slaugham on 5 February 1815. Therefore, she was born about 1735/6.
She may have been baptised in Cuckfield on either 13/17 August 1735, the
daughter of
Richard
Mitchel and
Mary Jenner,
or on 8 April 1736, the daughter of
John Mitchell and Mary. One of them as
Elizabeth
Michel may have married
Stephen
Comber on 9 January 1758 in Slaugham. My guess is that
1735 married John and 1736 to Stephen.
John
Tullett and Elizabeth Michell had 6 known children:
-
John Tullet
was baptised on 15 February 1761 in Slaugham. He may
have died aged 57 years and have been buried on 25 August 1819 in
Slaugham. (The IGI says he died on 24 November 1816.)
John may
have married
Mary
Streeter
by banns on 8 May 1793 at St. Nicholas, Brighton, Sussex. He did
have a cousin
John Tullett born in 1758.
-
James
Tullett,
my 4x Great Grandfather,
was baptised on 18 March 1764 in Slaugham.
He married
Sarah
French (1765-1840)
in 1787.
(They have their own page.)
-
Bette Tullett
was baptised on 16 February
1766 in Slaugham.
-
William Tullett
was baptised on 5 August
1770 in Slaugham.
William married
Ann
Streeter on
18 June 1797 in Cuckfield. I have a note of several possible baptisms for
Ann, so would need to find her age at death/burial to get a better idea of
when she was born.
William and Ann had 6 or 8 known children:
-
William Tullett was baptised on 3
June 1798 in Slaugham. He married Ann Levett on 24 October
1821 in Slaugham. They were then both of Slaugham. The witnesses
were Mary Bains and William Johnson.
-
Ann
Tullett was baptised on 1 July
1800 in Slaugham and buried there on 29 January 1801.
-
Sarah
Tullett was baptised on 13
September 1801 in Slaugham. She may have married
James Streeter on 26 May 1822 in Horsham.
-
James Tulett was born on 29 September 1803 and baptised
on 27 November 1803 in Crawley. I'm not if James was part of
this family.
-
John
Tullett was baptised on 13
December 1807 in Slaugham and buried there on 24 November 1861.
-
Mary
Tullett was baptised on 12 March
1809 in Slaugham and buried there in April 1811.
-
Mary
Tullett was baptised on 3 May
1812 in Slaugham.
-
Edward Tullett was born on 17 September 1814 in Worth
and baptised on 6 November 1814 in Crawley. The baptism register
described his father as a labourer. I'm not sure if Edward was
part of this family.
-
Edward Tullett
was baptised on 14 February
1773 in Slaugham.
He may have been buried on either 24 March
1775 or 4 November 1781, both in Slaugham. The burial register only
records that Edward Tullett was buried, and no further details to
determine to whom the burials apply. He did have 2 cousins:
Edward Tullett born in 1765 and
Edward Tullett born in 1776
-
Mary Tullett was
baptised on 15 February 1780 in Slaugham. She may have married
Edward Cranston on 21 December 1796 in Itchingfield, Sussex, or
John Mann on 22 September 1806 in Horsham.
Stephen and Elizabeth named their children: Stephen, John, Mary,
William, Bet and Sarah.

TULLETT
