James Thomas TULLETT (1870-?)

and Charlotte BURTENSHAW-COX (1864-?)

James Thomas Tullett and Charlotte Burtenshaw Cox married by banns on 19 October 1891 in Staplefield, Sussex.  He was then said to be a 25 year old bachelor and coachman and she a 28 year old spinster.  Their fathers were named as Harry Tullett a baker and Robert Cox a farmer.  The witnesses to their marriage were John Burtenshaw Cox and Jess Burtenshaw Cox  (They were not my direct ancestors, but they were David Fyson's Grandparents.)

James Thomas Tullett was born on 15 June 1870 and baptised on 10 July 1870 in Ditchling, Sussex.  He was the son Henry Tullett (1845-?) and Louisa Maria Moorey (1841-?).

Charlotte Burtenshaw Cox was born in 1864 in Staplefield, although in the 1901 census her place of birth was recorded as Chailey, Sussex.  She was the daughter of Robert Burtenshaw Cox (c1830-?) and Sarah Burgess.  She died before 1907.  Her death may have been registered in the second quarter of 1905 in the St. Marylebone, London registration district as 41 year old Charlotte Tullett.

At the time of the 1901 census the family were living at Oaken Hall Lodge in Cumnor, Berkshire.  James was then earning his living as a domestic gardener.

James Thomas Tullett and Charlotte Burtenshaw Cox had 7 known children:

  1. Ellen Louise Tullett was born 1892 in Ditchling.  She was 8 years old when the 1901 census was recorded.

  2. Charles James Tullett was born about 1895 in Ditchling.  The 1901 census records that he was 6 year old James W. Tullett.

  3. Lucy Eliza Tullett was born on 7 March 1896 in Five Ashes, Sussex.  She died on 22 December 1974 in East Dulwich, London.  In 1901 she was 5 years old.

Lucy married William Fyson on 28 August 1920 in Kensington, London.

  4. Daisy Charlotte Tullett was born in the first quarter of 1899 in East Grinstead, Sussex.  She was a twin.  At the time of the 1901 census she was 2 years old.

  5. Edith Amy Tullett was born and died in the first quarter of 1899.  She was a twin.

  6. Louise Tullett

  7. Violet Mary Tullett was born in the fourth quarter of 1902 in the Abingdon, Berkshire registration district.  She died in 1985.
