James TULETT
(1810-1890)
and Elizabeth MOORE (1819-1854)

James Tulett
and Elizabeth Moore married on 5 November 1837 in Cowfold, Sussex.
James was then a 23 year old bachelor and labourer of North Church and
Elizabeth a 19 year old spinster of Brook. Their fathers were named as
William Tulett and Charles Moore. The witnesses to their
marriage were William Tulett and Mary Moore. As a
widower James married Ellen Moore, widow on 11 June 1864 in Cowfold.
As Eleanor Botting she had married Thomas Moore on 12
September 1842 in Cowfold. Their father's were named as
Charles Moore and William Botting and the
witnesses to their marriage were James Tulett and
Henry Hill. (They were not my direct ancestors,
but my mother's maiden name was Tullett and so I am interested in all
Tullett families, just to make sure I'm on the right track with my own.)
James Tulett
was born about 1814-1818 in Slaugham, Sussex. Might he have been
baptised on 23 November 1810 in Slaugham, Sussex and have been the son of
William Tulett and
Phoebe Hills? He died
aged 80 years at the Cuckfield Union workhouse and was buried on 13 December
1890 in Cuckfield, which fits nicely with the 1810 baptism.
Elizabeth Moore
may have been born between 1818 and 1821 in Bolney, Sussex, but no baptism
has been found for her at that time in Bolney. She may have been
baptised on 24 October 1819 in Cowfold, Sussex, the daughter of
Charles
Moore (1769-?) and
Jane Steele
(1781-1834). A transcript the Cowfold baptisms records that the
Elizabeth baptised in 1819 was the daughter of Charles and Mary. Her
father was a labourer at the time of her baptism. She died aged 33
years and was buried on 3 September 1854 in Cowfold.
Ellen was
probably baptised as Eleanor Botting on 27 December 1818 in Cowfold,
the daughter of William Botting and Hannah Billings. She
may have died aged 62 years in West Grinstead and have been buried as
Ellen Tullett in Cowfold on 18 September 1885.
Eleanor Tulett was a witness to the marriage of
Thomas White and Sarah Foice, widow on 22 December
1866 in Cowfold.
When the 1841
census was recorded James, Elizabeth and their 2 young children were living

James was a 33 year old servant/gardener living at Averys House in Cowfold,
whilst 31 year old Elizabeth and their 5 children were living at Pound House

children. In 1871, James aged 57, Ellen aged 51 and son Alfred were
living in Henfield Road, Cowfold and James was a gardener. By 1881, 66
