James TULETT (c1799-?)

and Mary FORD (?-?)

James Tulett and Mary Ford married on by banns on 23 November 1824 in Brighton.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster, and they were both of Brighton.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

James Tulett was born about 1799 in Horsham, Sussex.  He was probably the son of James Toolet and Ann Longhurst.

Mary Ford's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She died before the recording of the 1851 census.

When the 1851 census was recorded, James was a 52 year old widower and fly driver living with the family of his brother Abraham Tulett at 22 Albion Street, Brighton.  Abraham was baptised on 15 September 1811 in Horsham and was the son of James Toolett and Ann Longhurst who had married on 17 October 1799 in Dorking, Surrey.

James Tulett and Mary Ford had 5 known children:

  1. William Tulett was baptised on 10 June 1827 at St. Nicholas in Brighton.  His father was then an ostler of North Lane.  In 1851 he was an unmarried 24 year old shoemaker journeyman and he was then living with the family of his uncle Abraham Tulett.  When the 1861 census was recorded he was an unmarried 33 year old dock labourer, boarding at 2 Rathbone Strett in Westham, Essex.  (He was not the William Tulett who married Lucy Laker in 1845.)

  2. Caroline Tulett was baptised on 11 January 1830 at St. Nicholas in Brighton.  Her father was then a horse keeper of Richmond Mews.

  3. Mary Ann Tulett was baptised on 8 January 1832 at St. Nicholas in Brighton.  Her father was then a labourer of Richmond Hill.

  4. Frederick Tulett was baptised on 2 October 1836 at St. Nicholas in Brighton.  His father was then a labourer of Chalk Farm.

  5. Elizabeth Tulett was baptised on 21 October 1838 at St. Nicholas in Brighton.
