Isaac TRIGWELL (1773-1838)

and Elizabeth CLARKE (1773-1828)

Isaac Trigwell and Elizabeth Clarke married by licence on 16 March 1796 in Ringmer, Sussex.  Their marriage licence was issued the day before by the Archdeaconry of Lewes, which recorded that he was a husbandman and bachelor of Ringmer and she was a spinster of the same place.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Isaac Trigwell was baptised on 22 August 1773 in Ringmer.  He was the son of William Trigwell (1729-1802) and Mary Smith (c1735-1813).  Isaac was buried on 30 December 1838 in Ringmer.

Elizabeth Clarke was baptised on 6 June 1773 in Ringmer.  She was the daughter of Nicholas Clarke (1744-?) and Ruth Beard (1751-?).  Elizabeth was buried on 30 October 1828 in Ringmer.

Isaac Trigwell and Elizabeth Clark had 12 known children:

1. Betty Trigwell was baptised on 15 January 1797 in Ringmer.

   As Elizabeth Trigwell she married William Lovegrove by licence on 24 February 1819 in Ringmer.  They were both of Ringmer.  Their marriage licence was issued on the same day by the Archdeaconry of Lewes, which recorded that she was a spinster and he an artilleryman.

2. John Trigwell was baptised on 3 June 1798 in Ringmer.  He married Caroline Towner in 1818.  (They have their own page.)

3. William Trigwell was baptised on 11 May 1800 in Ringmer.  He died in Ringmer in 1845.  Another William Trigwell was born in Alciston in 1799.

4. Joseph Trigwell was baptised on 25 April 1802 in Ringmer.  He died in 1877 in Ringmer.

5. Sarah Trigwell was baptised on 8 January 1804 in Ringmer.

   Sarah may have married John Sexton by banns on 22 May 1824 at St. Anne's, Lewes.  They were both of the parish of St. Anne's. 

6. Mary Trigwell was baptised on 14 July 1805 in Ringmer and buried there on 21 July 1805.

7. James Trigwell was baptised on 28 September 1806 in Ringmer.  He died in 1880 in Ringmer.

   James married Harriet Woodgate by banns on 22 June 1828 at St. Annes, Lewes.

   Harriet was born about 1807 in Buxted.  She died in 1885.

   In 1851 the couple and 4 children were living at Neve? Lane in Ringmer.  James was then a 44 year old farm labourer.  Harriet was also 44 and gave her place of birth as Buxted.

   James and Harriet had the following children:

   1. Thomas Trigwell was baptised on 12 June 1831 in Ringmer.

      Thomas married Mary Mason on 9 March 1861 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.

      Thomas and Mary had the following children:

      1. Thomas J. Trigwell

      2. William J. Trigwell

      3. Harriet A. Trigwell

   2. Isaac Trigwell was born about 1833 in Ringmer.  In 1851 he was a 17 year old farm labourer and he was living at home with his parents.

   3. James Trigwell was baptised on 22 March 1835 in Ringemer and buried there in 1837.

   4. Sophia Trigwell was baptised on 10 June in Ringmer.  She was 14 years old in 1851.  Sophia married Henry Gates on 4 November 1855 in Ringmer.

   5. Henry Trigwell was baptised on 10 June 1838 in Ringmer and buried there in 1843.

   6. Joseph Trigwell was baptised on 14 June 1840 in Ringmer and buried there in July 1844.

   7. John Trigwell was born about 1842/3 in Ringmer.  In 1851 he was 8 years old.  John married Fanny Petitt on 23 February 1878 at St. Peter's, Brighton.  John and Fanny had the following children:

      3. John Trigwell

      4. William James Trigwell

      5. Alfred Thomas Trigwell

      6. Edith A. Trigwell

      7. Daisy Ethel Trigwell

   8. Sarah Trigwell was born about 1846 in Ringmer.  She was 5 years old in 1851.

8. Caroline Trigwell was baptised on 23 October 1808 in Ringmer.

   Caroline married Thomas French by licence on 30 June 1827 in Ringmer.  Their marriage licence was issued the day before by the Archdeaconry of Lewes, which recorded that she was a spinster of Ringmer and married with consent.  He was a widower of Tarring Neville.

   Thomas born on 9 August 1791 and baptised on 19 February 1792 in Chiddingly, Sussex and was the son of John French (1755-1838) and Catherine Lavender (1759-1833).  He died in 1858 in Alfriston.

9. Ruth Trigwell was baptised on 27 May 1810 in Ringmer.

   Ruth married John Evans by banns on 21 March 1831 in Ringmer.  They were both of Ringmer.

10. Ann Trigwell was baptised on 10 May 1812 in Ringmer.

    Ann married John Ford on 18 December 1836 in Lewes.

11. Henry Trigwell was baptised on 30 January 1814 in Ringmer.

    Did he marry Mary Gillham on 25 January 1840 in East Dean?  He was a bachelor and she a spinster and they were both of East Dean.

12. Thomas Nicholas Trigwell was baptised on 29 December 1816 in Ringmer.  He died in 1887 in Brighton.

    Thomas married Eliza Earle on 6 August 1837 in East Dean.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster and they they were both of East Dean.

    In 1851 the couple together with 5 children and 21 year old visitor and stableman, Samuel Alfred Trigwell, were living at 8 Carlton Court in Brighton.  Thomas was then a 32 year old stableman.  Eliza was also 32 and gave her place of birth as Eastbourne.

    Thomas and Eliza had the following children:

    1. Elizabeth Trigwell was born about 1838 in Brighton.  In 1851 she was a 13 year old scholar.

       Elizabeth married Thomas Trigwell on 17 August 1861 at St. Nicholas in Brighton.

       He was said to be 28 years old and the son of William Trigwell.  She was 23 and the daughter of Thomas Nicholas Trigwell.

    2. Thomas Nicholas Trigwell was baptised on 15 March 1840 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.

    3. James Trigwell was baptised on 12 June 1842 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.  He was a 9 year old scholar in 1851.

    4. Mary Ann Trigwell was baptised on 3 May 1846 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.  She was 5 years old in 1851.

    5. John William Trigwell was baptised on 28 January 1849 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.  He was 3 years old in 1851.

    6. Emma Trigwell was born in 1851 in Brighton.  At the time of the 1851 census she was 4 months old.

    7. Ellen Trigwell was baptised on 7 August 1853 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.

    8. Isaac J. Trigwell was born about 1858 in Brighton.

    9. Henry George Trigwell was baptised on 7 August 1859 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.
