Charles Trigwell and Ann Weller married on 10 February 1850 in

Saunders in the third quarter of 1838 in the Newhaven registration
district. His second marriage was to Sarah
Shelley on 24 August 1845 in Southwick, Sussex. (They were not my direct ancestors.)
Charles Trigwell was born on 31 October 1817 and baptised on 28
December 1817 in Patcham, Sussex. He was the son of
Sturt (c1777-1849). At the time of his baptism his father was a labourer
from Moulscombe. When the 1841 census was recorded, he was a 25 year old
agricultural labourer, living at Rookery in Hangleton, along with 15 year
old James Saunders who was also an agricultural labourer.
Charles died aged 83 years and his death was registered in the second
quarter of 1901 in the Steyning registration district.
Sophia Saunders was born about 1814. When the 1841 census was
recorded she was 27 year old and living with parents-in-law in Moulscombe,
along with her young son.
Sarah Shelley died in the fourth quarter of 1848.
Ann Weller was born in Slaugham, as per the 1851 census and baptised on 9 June 1822 in Horsham, Sussex. She
was the daughter of
The 1841 census records her ahead of her younger siblings, but says she was
10 years old. Ann died aged 87 years and her death was registered in
the second quarter of 1909 in the Steyning registration district.
Before her marriage, Ann had an illegitimate daughter:
Eliza Jane Weller was baptised on 1 February 1846 at St. Nicholas
in Brighton. Her father may have been Charles Trigwell
although he was then married to someone else.
Eliza was a 5 year old scholar when the 1851 census was recorded and
living with her maternal grandmother, although Eliza was then said to be
the daughter of Mary. The 1861 census records her name as
Eliza Trigwell and she was then a 15 year old servant living
with her parents in Southwick.
Eliza married Edwin Tomsett in 1868.
When the 1851
census was recorded Charles and Ann together with their young son and a
lodger, unmarried 30 year old Edward Thornton, were living at Goldstone Bottom in Hove. Charles was then a
33 year old shepherd and Ann was 30. In 1861 the family were living in
Garden Cottages, Southwick and Charles was a 42 year old shepherd. Ann
was then 40 years old. By 1871 the family had moved to Fridays in
Slaugham. Charles was still earning his living as a shepperd and he
was said to be 53 years old whilst Ann was 50. Also with them on
census night were 6 of their children and 73 year old uncle Daniel
Weller who was a widower.

Trigwell was privately baptised on 16 October 1839 in Patcham.
The baptism register records that his father was a shepherd. He
was a year old in 1841 and living with his mother and paternal

James Robert Trigwell Weller was born in August 1848 in Brighton,
before his parents married. In 1851 he was 2 years old and living
with his parents. In 1861 he was living with his maternal
grandmother and he was then a 12 year old shepherd.
James married Mary Jane Tulley on 16 November 1867 in

Harriet Trigwell was born about 1873.
Eliza Trigwell was born about 1874.
Lucy Ann Trigwell was born on 19 April 1876.
Charles H. Trigwell was born about
Annie C. Trigwell was born about 1881.
Charles Richard J. Trigwell was born about 1851 in Hove. He
was 10 years old in 1861. In 1871 he was a 20 year old
agricultural labourer and the eldest of his siblings living at home.
Charles married Ann.
Ann was born about 1854 in Worth, Sussex.

Caroline Lucy Trigwell was born in Hove, as per the 1861 census,
and baptised on 3 July 1853 at St. Nicholas,
Brighton. She was 8 years old in 1861. In 1871 she was 18
years old and living at home.
Richard Jonathan Trigwell was born in Hove, as per the 1861 census,
and baptised on 20 May 1855 at St. Nicholas, Brighton. In
1861 he was 6 years old. He was a 16 year old agricultural
labourer in 1871.
Richard married Ellen.
Ellen was born about 1856 in East Lulworth, Dorset.
Richard and Ellen had the following children:
George Trigwell was born about 1883.
James C. Trigwell was born about 1885.
Ellen Trigwell was born about 1888.
Bessie Trigwell was born about 1890.
William Trigwell was born in the first quarter of 1858 in Hove. He
was 3 years old in 1861. In 1871 he was a 13 year old shepperd
William married Kate Underhill in 1882.
Kate was born about 1860 in Cuckfield, Sussex.
William and Kate had the following children:
Alice C. Trigwell was born about 1885.
Elizabeth Trigwell was born about 1887.

Lucy Trigwell was born on 9 February 1860 in Rottingdean, Sussex
and baptised on 18 March 1860 in Hove.

Lucy was a year old when the 1861 census was recorded. In 1871 she
was an 11 year old scholar.
John Frederick Henry Trigwell was
baptised on 12 November 1865 in
Hove. He was a 5 year old scholar in 1871.
