Henry Town and Harriet Daughtry married on 29 May
1831 in Storrington, Sussex. They were both then of Coombes.
(They were not my direct ancestors. Henry was the 2x great nephew of my
7x great grandmother, Elizabeth Cook.)
Henry Town was baptised on 25 December 1809 in Steyning,
Sussex. He was the son of
(1772-1843) and Jane
Langley (c1775-?). The death of a Henry Town
was registered in the fourth quarter of 1861 in the Lambeth registration
Harriet D'Autry was baptised on 31 July 1814 in Storrington,
Sussex. She was the daughter of James Dawtry and
Jenny Meacer. Harriet died on 9 February 1881 in
Ontario, Canada. She emigrated to Ontario in 1871. On 12 April
1873 Harriet married John Burrows in Oxford, Ontario, and
her parents were then named as James and Jane
Daughtill. Many thanks to Gerry Lavigne
for the details about Harriet's death, emigration and second marriage.
Gerry also tells me that from his family records Harriet's surname was also
spelt Daughtron and Daughtree.
When the 1841 census was recorded the couple and their 4 children were
living in Storrington. Henry was then a labourer. Also with
the family on census night was 4 year old William Daughtry.
In 1851 the family were living at 4 Dorset Street, Brighton. By
1861 the couple had moved to 17 Clarendon Repeat in Camberwell ?? Road
in Lambeth, London. Henry was then a 50 year old
labourer/bricklayer and Harriet was 47. Also with them on census
night were 3 of their children and their son Albert and his wife were
lodging with them.
Town and Harriet Daughtry had 8 or 9 known children:
George James Town was baptised on 1 November 1832
in Steyning. He was 9 years old at the time of the 1841
Richard Town was born about 1833. (I'm not
sure whether Richard was part of this family.)
Thomas Charles Town was baptised on 20 July 1834 in
Steyning. In 1841 he was 7 years old.
They had the following
Frederick Town was born about 1877.
Henry Town was born about 1879.
Ethel Emma Town was born about 1880.
Harold C. Town was born about
Jesse Alfred was born about 1887.
Grace Louise Town was born about 1889.
Edward William Town was baptised on 6 November 1836
at St. Mary in Lambeth, Surrey. He died in
about 1913. In 1841 he was 5 years old. At the time of
the 1851 census he was a 14 year old scholar and the eldest of his
siblings living at home.
Mary Jane Adams.
She was born about 1838 and died on 4 January 1918 in Innerkip,

Fanny Harriet Town was born on 8 December 1859.
She died on 22 April 1940 in Brantford, Ontario, Canada.
Luke White on 4 October 1881.
Luke was born on 26 September 1858 and was the son of Luke
White (c1801-1873) and Frances Ann Humpfrey
(c1797-1866) He died on 26 September 1933
Luke and Fanny had the following children:
Harvey Albert White was born on 22 July
1879 in Innerkip, Ontario. He married Margaret
E. B. Baker on 5
September 1904. They had the following children:
Floyd Ernest White was born on 27 June
Arthur Beverly White was born on 14
Gladys Irene Mabel White was born on 8
Ethel May White was born on 1 July 1885.
She died in 1963 in Branford. She married James Cook on 26 July 1905. He was born on 20
June 1885 and died in 1918 in France. They had the

Phyllis Cook was born in July 1907.
William James Cook was born on 11
December 1911 and died on 5 September 1972. He
married Annie McCormick on 22 May 1937.
She was born on 23 August 1910.
Charles Edward Cook was born on 14
October 1912 and died on 29 August 1975. He
married Hazel Bradley.
Dorothy Grace Cook was born on 1 April
1914 and died on 5 October 1980. She married
Carl William Henry Woodcock. He
was born on 5 October 1910 and died on 24 March 1978.
Major Beverly Cook was born on 11
December 1916 and died in 1987. He married Hilda Irene Turland.
Mabel White married Joseph William
Butler on 8 April 1905. He was born on 10 May
1879 and died on 14 June 1921. They had the following

Benjamin Richard White married Edith Sarah Green on 29 January 1921. She was
born on 1895 and died on 28 January 1974.
Bertie White was born on 30 August 1891 in
East Zorra Township, Oxford County, Ontario and died on 3
Winton Beverly White
Edna Beatrice White was the illegitimate
daughter of Ethel May White, but was raised
by her grandparents as their own daughter. She married
Walter Norman Kerchoff on 25 December 1923.
He was born in 1895 in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
Albert Town was born about 1860 and died in
Major Town was born in 1860.
Mary Margaret Town was born in 1867 and died in
1917. She married Charles Edgar Edwards
on 21 July 1886. He was born about 1864 and died in about
1926. They had the following children:
Mary Jane Edwards was born on 27 April 1887
and died in 1961.
Charles Willard Edwards was born on 12 July
1899 and died in 1959.
Benjamin Town was born in 1869 and died in
1938. He married Mary Rieve Snowden on 16
December 1893. She was born in 1869 in Dumfriesshire,
Scotland and died in 1941. They had the following son:
Edward William Town was born about 1895.
Walter Edward Town was born on 17 August 1871 in
Ontario. He died on 16 August 1906 in Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Walter Edward married Clara Alberta
Bickford on 21 September 1898 in Hamiota, Manitoba.
Clara Alberta was born on 12 January 1875 and was the daughter of
William Bickford and Elizabeth Moody.
She died on 8 December 1969 in Winnipeg. In 1911 she was
living in Manitoba.
Walter and Clara had 4 children:
William Edward Town was born on 12 July 1899 in
Winnipeg. He died on 29 October 1934 in Winnipeg. He
was living in Winnipeg in 1906.
George Thomas Town was born on 30 November 1900
Albert Leslie Town was born on 4 February 1903
in Winnipeg. He died on 2 June 1971 in Winnipege.
Albert married Dorothy Kathleen Lamb on 10
March 1923 in Winnipeg.
John Walter Town was born on 29 July 1905 in
Winnipeg. He died on 8 August 1989 in Vancouver, British
Columbia, Canada. John married Marion Atkinson
in 1938 in Winnipeg.

Annie Town was born in 1879 and died in 1895.
Edith L. Town was born in
Henry Town was baptised on 11 August 1839 in
Storrington, at which time his father was a labourer. In 1841
he was 2 years old. He was an 11 year old scholar in 1851.
The 1861 census records that he was an unmarried 21 year old
labourer/bricklayer and he was living at home with his parents.
Albert Town was baptised on 3 October 1841 in
Storrington, at which time his father was a labourer. In 1851
he was said to be an 8 year old scholar. The 1861 census
records that he was a 19 year old cabman lodging in his parents home
with his 32 year old wife Louisa who was a needlewoman.
Albert married Louisa Phillips in the third quarter of
1860 in the Lambeth registration district.
Sarah Jane Town was baptised on 3 March 1844 in
Storrington, at which time her father was a labourer. The
1851 census records that Sarah Town was a 6 year
William Town was baptised on 22 July 1849 at St.
Nicholas in Brighton. He was a year old in 1851. In 1861
he was an 11 year old scholar.
Rhoda Town was born in the second quarter of 1852 in
Newington, Surrey. She was an 8 year old scholar in 1861.
