John TICEHURST (1630-1714)

and Ann DURRENT (c1640-1672)

John Ticehurst and Ann Durrant were my 9x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married on 28 September 1665 in Warbleton, Sussex.  He was then of Ashburnham, Sussex and she of East Hoathly, Sussex.

John Ticehurst may have been baptised on 7 February 1629/30 in Ashburnham and have been the son of John Ticehurst who was then of Barnland in Ashburnham.  His mother was probably Elizabeth Mathew.  He was said to be of Batchelors in 1671 and he was again said to be a tenant of Batchelors in 1692.  A John Ticehurst senior was of Batchelors in 1652 and I assume junior inherited the property from his father.  He was buried on 9 April 1714 in Ashburnham.

Ann Durrent's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She was buried on 27 February 1671/2 in Ashburnham.  The burial register records that she was Anne wife of John Tishurst of Batchelors.  Might she have been the daughter of Edward Durrant and Sarah James who married in East Hoathly in 1626?

John Ticehurst and Ann Durrent had 2 known children:

  1. Sarah Ticehurst, my 8x Great Grandmother, was baptised on 15 May 1668 in Ashburnham.  She married Solomon Glyd in 1688.  (They have their own page.)

  2. John Ticehurst was baptised on 17 February 1671/2 in Ashburnham.  The baptism register only records his father's name and that he was of Batchelors.

There was also a John Ticehurst of Slivericks in Ashburnham from at least 1662 until his death in 1692.  He did not leave a will.  He may have been the son of another John and he may have had the following children:

  1. Anne Ticehurst was baptised on 15 November 1646 in Ashburnham.  Her father was then of Sliverix.

  2. A son was baptised on 4 November 1649 in Ashburnham.  His father was then of Sliverix.

John Ticehurst married Alice West on 24 August 1654 in Brightling.  He was then of Ashburnham and she of Dallington.  They may have had the following children:

  1. Elizabeth Ticehurst was baptised on 26 December 1655 in Ashburnham.  Her father was then of Sliverix.

  2. James Ticehurst was born on 19 February and baptised on 1 March 1664/5 in Ashburnham.  His parents were then of Sliverix.
