Nicholas THORPE (1704-1742)

and Susanna HAMES (1695-1734)

and Elizabeth ARNOLD (1705-1791)

Nicholas Thorpe first married Susanna Hames on 1 May 1729 in Fletching, Sussex.  He was then of Fletching and she of West Hoathly, Sussex.  Nicholas next married Elizabeth Arnold on 12 April 1737 in Fletching and they were both then of Fletching.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  Nicholas was the brother of my 7x Great Grandfather, Thomas Thorpe and Susanna was the sister of my 6x Great Grandfather, William Hames.)

Nicholas Thorpe was baptised on 17 April 1704 in Maresfield, Sussex.  He was the son of Richard Thorpe (1670-1742) and Elizabeth Clark (c1674-1761).  Nicholas was buried on 13 September 1742 in Fletching.

Susannah Hams was baptised on 17 April 1695 in West Hoathly, Sussex.  She was the daughter of 5 183 John Hames (c1654-1739) and 5 183 Elizabeth Payne (1656-1743).  Susanna was buried on 18 September 1734 in Fletching.  She most probably died as a result of child birth, as her son was baptised on the day she was buried.

Elizabeth Arnold was baptised on 13 April 1705 in Fletching.  She was the daughter of William Arnold and Hannah Inkpen.  Elizabeth was buried on 10 March 1791 in Fletching.

Nicholas Thorpe and Susanna Hames had 3 known children:

  1. Elizabeth Thorp was baptised on 25 March 1730 in Fletching.

  2. Mary Thorpe was baptised on 2 February 1731/3 in Fletching.

  3. John Thorp was baptised on 18 September 1734 in Fletching.

Nicholas Thorpe and Elizabeth Arnold had 2 known children:

  1. Nicholas Thorpe was baptised on 17 April 1738 in Fletching.

  2. William Thorpe was baptised on 19 March 1739/40 in Fletching.  He was buried on 13 February 1822 in Fletching.

William married Jane Baker by banns on 10 June 1765 in Fletching.  They were both then of Fletching.

Jane was born about 1742.  She died aged 60 years and was buried on 23 June 1802 in Fletching.  Might she have been baptised on 12 December 7142 in Horsted Keynes and have been the daughter of Thomas Baker and Mary?

William and Jane had 6 known children:

    1. Mary Thorpe was baptised on 20 October 1765 in Fletching.  Mary may have married Joseph Holman on 19 December 1792 in Fletching, Sussex.

    2. Elizabeth Thorpe was baptised on 31 January 1768 in Fletching.

    3. Jane Thorpe was baptised on 10 February 1771 in Fletching.

    4. William Thorpe was baptised on 9 August 1773 in Fletching.

William married Jane Ellis on 15 April 1806 in Maresfield.

Jane was baptised on 12 January 1783 in Fletching.  She was the daughter of George Ellis (1754-1802) and Mary Falconer (1757-1818).  Jane died in 1839.

William and Jane had 3 known children:

      1. William Thorpe was born about 1806/7 in Fletching.  He married Hannah Carr on 31 December 1834 in Maresfield.  They were both then of Maresfield.  Hannah was born about 1813-7 in Maresfield and was the daughter of Vince Carr (1781-1833) and Philadelphia Holmes (1789-?).  William and Hannah had 15 known children.

      2. George Thorpe was baptised on 10 September 1814 in Fletching.

Martha married William Langridge by banns on 6 September 1807 in Fletching.  She was then of Fletching and he of Little Horsted, Sussex.

William died on 20 August 1851 in Fletching.  He may have been baptised on 13 April 1783, the son of John Langridge and Elizabeth Chandler or on 10 April 1785, the son of William Langridge and Ann Stanfield.  Both baptisms took place in Fletching.
