Ralph THORNS (1735-1817)

and Martha LONGHURST (1737-1812)


Ralph Thornes and Martha Longust may have been my 6x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their possible place in my pedigree chart.  They married by banns on 1 May 1762 in Warnham, Sussex.  He was then a bachelor and she a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were James Groombridge and William Steere.

Ralph Thorn was baptised on 25 April 1735 in Warnham.  He was the son of George Thorns (1704-1773) and Joan Grumbridge (1706-1783).  Ralph died aged 70 years and was buried on 11 January 1835 in Warnham.

Martha Longhurst was baptised on 13 July 1737 in Rudgwick, Sussex.  She was the daughter of John Longhurst.  Martha was buried on 3 November 1812 in Warnham.


Ralph Thorns and Martha Longhurst had 5 known children: 

  1. James Thorns was baptised on 12 September 1762 in Warnham and buried there on 12 December 1762.

  2. John Thorns was baptised on 12 February 1764 in Warnham and buried there on 29 February 1764.

  3. Ralph Thorns was baptised on 12 December 1764 in Warnham.  He married Sarah Hill in 1790.  (They have their own page.)

  4. Daniel Thornes was baptised on 3 April 1768 in Warnham.

  5. Hannah Thornes was baptised on 15 July 1770 in Warnham.

    Hannah married John Buster by banns on 19 October 1793 in Warnham.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were Arthur Seagrave and John Steere.
