George THORNS (1704-1773)

and Joan GRUMBRIDGE (1706-1783)

 

George Thornes and Jane Grumbridge may have been my 7x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their possible place in my pedigree chart.  They married on 21 May 1727 in Warnham, Sussex.

George Thorns was baptised on 24 April 1704 in Horsham.  He was the son of Ralph Thorns (1660-1741) and Mary Feist (c1665-1722).  At the time of his baptism, his father was a labourer.  He was buried on 2 June 1773 in Warnham, Sussex.

Joan Grumbridge was baptised on 13 June 1706 in Horsham.  She was the daughter of John Grumbridge and Joan Matthews.  At the time of her baptism, her father was a labourer.  She was buried on 4 February 1783 in Warnham.

 

George Thorns and Joan Grumbridge had 8 known children: 

  1. John Thorns was baptised on 10 October 1727 in Horsham.  It was noted in the baptism register that his parents were from Warnham.  He was buried on 21 November 1727 in Warnham.

  2. Mary Thorns was baptised on 7 January 1728/9 in Horsham.

    Mary may have married John Washer on 6 February 1753 in Warnham.  He was then a bachelor and she a spinster.

  3. Richard Thorns was baptised on 13 February 1732/3 in Horsham.

  4. Ralph Thorn was baptised on 25 April 1735 in Warnham.  He married Martha Longhurst in 1762.  (They have their own page.)

  5. Betty Thorn was baptised on 23 February 1736/7 in Horsham.

    As Elizabeth Thorns she may have been the mother of:

    1. Elizabeth Thorns was baptised on 26 July 1757 in Horsham.

    An Elizabeth Thornes married Joseph Nightingale by banns on 16 October 1759 in Warnham.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were William Steere and Ann Shawe.

  6. Sarah Thorn was baptised on 2 February 1740/1 in Horsham.

    Sarah may have married John Edwards by banns on 4 November 1771 in Warnham.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were Richard Razell and William Steere.

  7. Nan Thorns was baptised on 6 May 1743 in Horsham.

  8. Joan Thorns was baptised on 1 April 1748 in Rusper.

    As Jane Thornes she may have married Henry Charman by banns on 6 November 1775 in Warnham.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were Thomas Patching and William Steere.
