The Will of
George SWIFT (1679-1749)

In the Name of God Amen I
George
Swift the Elder of the parish of Ticehurst in the County of Sussex
Yeoman being sick and weak of Body but of a Sound and perfect mind and
memory and understanding (praised be God for the same) Do this third day
of May in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and fforty eight
make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and force
following (that is to say) ffirst and principally I Commend my Soul into
the hands of Almighty God hoping this the merits death and Pass*** of my
Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon and
forgiveness of all my Sins and to **** Everlasting Life and my Body I
Committ to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executrix
hereafter named and as **** ing the dispositon of all such temporal Estate
wherewith it hath pleased Almighty God of his Infinite Goodnes and Mercy to
bestow upon me **** and dispose thereof following ffirst I give and bequeath
unto my daughter Sarah the wife of John Crouch of Ticehurst
aforesaid Husbandman the sum of ffive shillings of Lawfull money of Great
Brittain to be paid unto her by my Executrix hereafter named within three
months next after my decease Item I give and bequeath unto my three sons
George William and John and to each of them the several
and respective sums of ffive shillings of **** Lawfull money **** to be
likewise paid to them by my Executrix hereafter named within three months
next after my decease All the rest and residue of my household goods
chattels **** **** moneys due on Mortgage **** **** other security or
securties Husbandry **** and all other my personal Estate whatsoever and
wheresoever (after payment of all my just debts to ffuneral expenses and
**** **** afore **** I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Swift
with full power to and for her to sell and receive the benefitts thereof to
and for her Sole **** Support and Maintenance for and during the term of her
natural life and from and after her deceased I give and bequeath the same or
such part thereof that shall leave unto my four children Sarah the
wife of the said John Crouch George William and John Swift
equally to be divided between them share and share alike and in case either
of them should die before their Mother without **** and **** otherwise there
such part or parts to be divided unto such child or children of **** shall
be there living equally share and share alike and I do hereby Nominate
Ordain Constitute and appoint my Loving wife Mary Swift full and sole
Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoaking Dis****ing
and making void all former Wills by me heretofore made and do declare this
to be my only Last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said
George Swift the Testator have to this my Last Will and Testament
contained in one sheet of paper sett my hand and seale this day and year
first above written the mark of George Swift signed sealed and
published and declaared by the said George Swift the Testator as to
and for his Last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request
have subscribed our names as witnesses in his presence and in the presence
of each other Thos Eldridge his mark Lawrence ***mphies mark

The Will of George Swift of
Ticehurst within the archdeaconry of Lewes was proved the Seventeenth Day
of May in the Year of our Lord One thousnad Seven hundred and Forty nine
Before the Worshipfull George **** Master of **** **** Principal
Officer of the Archdeaconry aforesaid upon the Oath of Mary Swift
Sole Executrix in the said Will named to whom the **** of the Administration
of the Goods **** Committed being first sworn well and faithfully to
Administer the same and soforth
