Richard SWIFT (c1640-1683)

and Sarah MAY (c1645-?)

 

Richard Swift and Sarah May married on 9 April 1667 in Udimore, Sussex.

Richard Swift's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He was not baptised in Udimore.  He was buried on 28 August 1683 in Udimore.  Might he have been the son of John Swift (1613-?) and Sarah Borner?

Sarah May's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Might she have been the daughter of Robert May and Martha Martin who married on 9 May 1637 in Iden, Sussex?

 

Richard Swift and Sarah May had 5 known children:

  1. John Swift was baptised on 29 January 1667/8 in Brede.

    John married Joan Breads on 31 May 1694 in Rye.  He was then of Udimore and she of Rye.

    John and Joan had 1 known son:

    1. John Swift was born on 2 August 1695 in Rye.  His aunt was Mary Baker.  As Mary Breeds she had married Walter Backer on 15 February 1693/4 in Rye.  Walter was a fisherman.

  2. William Swift was baptised on 10 October 1669 in Brede.

  3. James Swift was baptised on 3 August 1673 in Udimore.

  4. Richard Swift was baptised on 30 January 1676/7 in Udimore and buried there on 10 February 1676/7.

  5. Mary Swift was baptised on 14 February 1680/1 in Udimore and buried there on 13 April 1681.
