John SWIFT (1698-1757)

and Grace HOSMER (1705-?)

John Swift and Grace Hosmer married on 29 April 1729 in Frant, Sussex.  At the time John was of Wadhurst, Sussex and Grace of Mayfield, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  John was the half brother of my 7x Great Grandmother, Elizabeth Swift.)

John Swift was baptised on 23 November 1698 in Wadhurst, Sussex.  He was the son of John Swift (1669-1730) and Priscilla Foster (?-1706).  John may have been buried on 15 January 1757 in Wadhurst, but the burial register just records that John Swift was buried.  John was a cordwainer.  He took on 3 apprentice cordwainers:  Thomas Cooper son of John Cooper (deceased) in May 1738; Edward Wilmeshurst son of Elizabeth Wilmeshurst on 24 August 1743, both for a period of 7 years; and James Clerk son of Thomase Clerk husbandman of Lamberhurst

Grace Hosmer or Grace Hosmore was baptised on 25 July 1705 in Mayfield.  She was the daughter of Thomas Hosmore and Mary Sevenokes.  She died after March 1747.
