John SWIFT
(1613-?)
and Sarah BORNER (c1615-?)

John Swift
and Sarah Borner were my 9x Great Grandparents.
(Click
here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)
They married on 25 November 1634 in Salehurst, Sussex.
John Swift was baptised on 2 January 1613/4 in Salehurst. He
was the son of
Samuel Swifte (c1590-1633) and
Alice Eliot
(c1590-1646).
Sarah Borner's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.
Might she have been the daughter of
John
Bourner and
Denise
Foster who married in Salehurst in 1597? I have not found
Sarah's baptism in Salehurst between 1597 and 1616.
In 1657 the family may have occupied a messuage, garden and orchard called
Freinds at Northbridge in Salehurst.
John Swift and Sarah Borner had 5 known children:
-
John Swift
was baptised on 23 October 1636 in Wadhurst, Sussex and buried in
Salehurst on 18 March 1640/1 as John son of John Swifte.
-
Thomas Swift was baptised on 20 May 1638 in
Wadhurst. He or his cousin
Thomas Swift
born 1641, may have been buried on 3 July 1669 in Salehurst. One of
the cousins married and had a daughter Mary Swift baptised in 1662
in Salehurst. No possible marriage for Thomas has been found in the
Sussex IGI or the Sussex Family History Group's marriage index. Nor,
so far, have any further children fathered by Thomas been found.
-
Samuel Swift was baptised on 16 February 1639/40
in Salehurst. He may have been the Samuel Swift who was a
smith's apprentice buried in Beckley, Sussex in 1651, but 11 years old
seems a little young to have been an apprentice. He had a cousin
Samuel Swift
born in 1636.
-
Robert Swift was baptised on 31 July 1642 in
Salehurst. Nothing more is so far known about Robert. He did
have a cousin
Robert Swift born in 1645, but he died in 1647.
-
John
Swift, my 8x Great Grandfather, was baptised
on 13 September 1646 in Salehurst. He most probably married twice,
firstly to Frances Wyatt in 1666 and then to
Ann before 1669. (They have their own page.)
Might John and
Sarah have also been the parents of:
-
Richard Swift
married Sarah May on 9 April 1667 in
Udimore, Sussex. Might he have been born about 1644? I have
checked a transcript of the Salehurst baptism register and did not find
Richard's, or any other Swift's, baptised between 1643-5.
