George SWIFT (1715-?)

and Ann RABBETT (?-?)

 

George Swift and Ann Rabbett married by banns on 16 May 1745 in Wadhurst, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  George may have been the nephew of my 8x Great Grandfather John Swift.)

George Swift may have been baptised on 15 May 1715 in Lamberhurst, Kent as the son of Robert Swift (1677-?) and Lydia Noakes (1678-?).  He may also have previously married Mary Lamberd on 25 June 1742 in Wadhurst.  However, George did have 2 cousins:  George Swift born 1720 and George Swift born 1723.  As George named his first known child Lydia and second child Robert, I am assuming he was the one born in 1715, rather than either of the other 2.

Ann Rabbett's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

 

George Swift and Ann Rabbett had known 9 children:

  1. Lydia Swift was baptised on 8 March 1746/7 in Wadhurst.  She married Thomas Botten by banns on 8 April 1765 in Wadhurst.  At the time they were both of Wadhurst.  He signed his name whilst Lydia made her X mark.  The witnesses were A?? S?? (just can not make out the name, could be Anne Summer) and George Chapman, who both signed their names.  The banns were published on 7, 14 and 21 April, but I would think this should be March.  Thomas and Lydia had 3 known children:

    1. Lydia Botten was baptised on 5 November 1769 in Wadhurst.

    2. Robert Bottin was baptised on 3 March 1771 in Wadhurst.

    3. William Botten was privately baptised on 29 January 1772 in Wadhurst.

  2. Robert Swift was baptised on 1 January 1748/9 in Wadhurst.

  3. George Swift was baptised on 16 September 1750 in Wadhurst and probably died young.

  4. George Swift was baptised on 24 November 1751 in Wadhurst.

  5. Anne Swift was baptised on 15 December 1754 in Wadhurst.

  6. William Swift was baptised on 4 March 1756 in Wadhurst.

  7. John Swift was baptised in February 1758 in Wadhurst.

  8. Elizabeth Swift was baptised in April 1760 in Wadhurst.  She may have married John Nichols by banns on 27 July 1783 in Salehurst, Sussex.  But there was another Elizabeth Swift born in 1761.

  9. Thomas Swift was baptised on 18 July 1762 in Wadhurst.
