William STICKLAND
(1657-1694)
and Ann ESTMOND (1660-?)

William Stickland
and
Ann Estmond
were my 8x Great Grandparents. (Click
here
to see their place in my pedigree chart.) They married on 8 September
1681 at the parish church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Wadhurst, Sussex.
William Stickland
was baptised on 18 November 1657 in Frant,
Sussex. He was the son of
5
282
William Stickland
(1618-1670) and
5
282
Elizabeth Cripse
(1626-1697). He was buried on 14
June 1694 in Frant and his was the only burial in Frant that month. He left
a will dated 9 June 1694 and proved on 17 January 1695 (click
here to
read my transcript), in which he mentioned his sons
Estmond, William,
John and Robert and daughters Elizabeth and Anne. He also named “brothers”
John Barham and
Alexander Elliott as executors of
his will. He was only about 36 or 37 years old when he died, and his will
was probably made either the day he died or a couple of day before. I
wonder if he died as a result of an accident or an illness? As his wife had
predeceased him, their 6 children aged between 2 and 11 where orphaned. I
wonder who looked after them and whether they were split up between the
families of their Aunts and Uncles? William was left a legacy of £300
by his father.
Ann Estmond
was baptised on 11 December 1660 in Westham,
Sussex. She was the daughter of
5
285
George
Estmond (1623-1667) and
5
285
Mary
Pitfield. She probaby died before her
husband, as she was not mentioned in her husband’s will. I have checked the Frant burial register between March 1692 and June 1694 and can not find a
burial for her. Ann was mentioned in her father's 1667 will by which
she was to
receive a legacy of £200 on the day of her marriage or her 21st birthday,
which ever came first.
