John STICKLAND (1690-1723)

and Elizabeth AUSTEN (1691-1764)

John Stickland and Elizabeth Austen married on 9 November 1713 at the parish church of St. Bartholomew in Burwash, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  John was the brother of my 7x great grandfather, Estmond Stickland.)

John Stickland was baptised on 4 March 1689/90 in Frant, Sussex.  He was the son of William Stickland (1657-1694) and Ann Estmond (1660-?).  He was buried on 3 July 1723 in Burwash.  John was a butcher of Burwash.  On 25 December 1713 he took on an apprentice, John Austen the son Thomas Austen a yeoman of Burwash.

Elizabeth Austen was baptised on 10 September 1691 in Burwash.  She was the daughter of Thomas Austen and Frances More.  She was buried on 24 June 1764 in Burwash, and the burial register recorded her name as Elizabeth Inskipp, widow.  (A Thomas Austen was buried in Burwash on 23 February 1728.)

As Elizabeth Strickland she married John Inskip on 2 January 1730/1 in Bodiam, Sussex.  They were both then of Burwash.

John Inskipp's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He was buried on 15 June 1764 in Burwash.  He had previously married Elizabeth Russell by licence on 27 December 1720 in Bodiam, at which time they were both of Burwash.  Their marriage licence was issued on 12 December 1720 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes and recorded that John was a butcher and Elizabeth a spinster.  She was buried on 1 January 1726 in Burwash.
