John STICKLAND
(1690-1723)
and Elizabeth AUSTEN (1691-1764)

John
Stickland and
Elizabeth Austen
married on 9 November 1713 at the parish church of St. Bartholomew in
Burwash, Sussex. (They were not my direct ancestors. John was
the brother of my 7x great grandfather, Estmond Stickland.)
John Stickland was baptised on 4 March 1689/90 in Frant, Sussex.
He was the son of
William Stickland
(1657-1694) and
Ann Estmond (1660-?). He was
buried on 3 July 1723 in Burwash. John was a butcher of
Burwash. On 25 December 1713 he took on an apprentice, John Austen
the son Thomas Austen a yeoman of Burwash.
Elizabeth Austen was baptised on 10
September 1691 in Burwash. She was the daughter of
Thomas Austen
and
Frances More.
She was buried on 24 June 1764 in Burwash, and the burial register recorded
her name as Elizabeth Inskipp, widow. (A Thomas Austen
was buried in Burwash on 23 February 1728.)
As Elizabeth Strickland she married
John Inskip on 2 January 1730/1 in Bodiam, Sussex. They were
both then of Burwash.
John Inskipp's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.
He was buried on 15 June 1764 in Burwash. He had previously married
Elizabeth Russell by licence on 27 December 1720 in Bodiam, at which
time they were both of Burwash. Their marriage licence was issued on
12 December 1720 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes and recorded that John was a
butcher and Elizabeth a spinster. She was buried on 1 January 1726 in
Burwash.

William Stickland
was baptised on 13 January 1715/6 in Burwash. He was buried
on 7 March 1792 in Appledore, Kent.
As William Strickland he married Emma Reed on 5 January
1741/2 in Hollington, Sussex.
Emma was buried on 13 September 1791 in Appledore.
William and Emma had 2 known children:

Elizabeth Strickland was baptised on 15 October 1751 in
Hawkhurst, Kent.

William Strickland was baptised on 20 May 1753 in Hawkhurst.
He died on 17 September 1804 and was buried on 22 September 1804 in
Appledore.
William married Sarah Apps on 12 October 1775 in Appledore.
Sarah was born about 1751. She was buried on 6 October 1811 in
Appledore.
William and Sarah had 7 known children:

William Strickland was born/baptised on 26 December 1776 in
Appledore. He died in 1811. William married Sarah.

Edmund Strickland was baptised on 4 February 1779 in Appledore.
Edmund married Sophia Haggett on 31 October 1801 at St.
Dunstan's in Canterbury, Kent. They had 3 known children.

George Strickland was born on 5 December 1780 and baptised on
26 December 1780 in Appledore. He died on 1 April 1859 in
Hastings, Sussex. George married Mary. She was
baptised on 23 September 1772 and died on 21 January 1847 in Hastings.
They had 6 known children.

Samuel Strickland was born/baptised on 9 December 1783 in
Appledore.

Elizabeth Strickland was born/baptised on 30 November 1785 in
Appledore.

Emma Strickland was born/baptised on 22 March 1788 in
Appledore.

John Strickland was born/baptised on 15 November 1791 in
Appledore. He was buried there on 29 August 1803.

John Stickland
was baptised on 19 July 1717 in Burwash.
He was buried on 8 April 1791 in Steeple Morden, Cambridgeshire.
As John Strickland he married Sarah Waghorne on 16 June 1748
at the Fleet Prison in London. She was then said to be of Salehurst.
Sarah was baptised on 17 July 1718 in Salehurst, Sussex and was the
daughter of John Waghorn and Deborah White. Her father
was a mason. Sarah was buried on 12 April 1777 in Steeple Morden.
(Another Sarah Waghorn was baptised on 1 December 1717 in
Salehurst, the daughter of Richard Waghorn and Elizabeth Brights.)
John and Sarah had 5 known children:

Sarah Stickland was baptised on 29 November 1751 in Bassingbourn,
Cambridgeshire. Sarah married John Archer Butterfield on 28
July 1774 in Steeple Morden.

Edward Stickland was born about 1753. He was buried on 27
May 1830 in Steeple Morden.

John Stickland was baptised on 19 November 1756 in Steeple
Morden. He was buried on 18 August 1831 in Steeple Morden.
John married Ann Holben on 23 March 1780 in Bourn,
Cambridgeshire. Ann was baptised on 9 July 1757 in Bourn.

Elizabeth Stickland was baptised in May 1759 in Steeple Morden.

Samuel Stickland was baptised on 11 December 1761 in Steeple
Morden. Samuel married Mary Hitch on 5 October 1786 in
Steeple Morden. Mary was baptised on 17 June 1764 in Steeple
Morden. She was buried there on 1 July 1803.

Edward Stickland
was baptised on 4 August 1718 in
Burwash. He married
Ann Gibbons
in 1747. (They have their own page.)

Thomas Stickland
was baptised on 19 January 1719/20 in
Burwash. He was buried there on 4 June 1741 and burial register
recorded his name as Thomas Strickland.

Samuel Stickland
was baptised on 5 January 1721/22 in Burwash. According to the IGI
there was another Samuel baptised on the same day, but in Hawkhurst, Kent,
and the son of Samuel and Mary.
Samuel married Mary Bellingham on 6 August 1758 in Tonbridge, Kent.
Samuel and Mary had 4 known children:

Samuel Strickland was baptised on 24 April 1759 in Hawkhurst.

Elizabeth Strickland was baptised on 6 April 1761 in Hawkhurst.
She was buried on 2 February 1856 in Appledore.

Mary Strickland was baptised on 23 October 1768 in Leeds, Kent.

Sarah Strickland was baptised on 31 May 1773 in Leeds.

George Stickland
was baptised on 27 December 1722 in
Burwash. (I have a note in my database that he was buried on 19
February 1754 in Burwash, but that entry does not appear in the transcript
I have of the Burwash parish registers - need to check the original
register.)
John Inskipp and Elizabeth had 3 known children:

Elizabeth Inskipp was baptised on 14 May 1730 in Burwash and buried
there on 1 May 1737.

Mary Inskipp was baptised on 2 May 1731 in Burwash.
Mary married Thomas Blonden by licence on 3 September 1749 in
Burwash.

Benjamin Inskipp was baptised on 11 June 1732 in Burwash and buried
there on 18 February 1733.
