The Will of
John STREETER
(c1710-1783)

In the Name of God
Amen I
John Streeter of Crawley in the County of
Sussex Yeoman being Aged but of well perfect mind memory and understanding
be praised by God for the same do this twenty third day of May in the year
of Our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and Seventy Eight make and publish
this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to
say) First I will and direct that all such just debts that I do owe at the
time of my decease and my funeral expenses be paid and satisfied out of my
personal Estate and I desire to be decently Buried by my Executors
hereinafter named in the next place I give and desire all that freehold
messuage or Tenament Garden Orchard and premises with their and every of
their Appurtenances thereto belonging situate lying and being in the parish
of Crawley aforesaid late Richard Dou--- and now in my own occupation
or my under Tenants to hold the said Messuage or Tenament Lands and Premises
with their and every of their Appurtenances unto my Daughter Joane
Lambert and to her heirs and assigns for ever Also I give unto my
Daughter the said Joane Lambert all my household Goods of all Sorts
and all my ready money that shall be in my dwelling house at the time of my
Death also I give unto my Daughter the said Joane Lambert all
Interest Money that shall be due and owing to me [---] Bond or Bonds
Mortgage or Mortgages Note or Notes of hand and also all other Interest
Money that shall be due and owing to me [---] any Security whatsoever
together with all Rents that shall be owing [---] any of my Estates up to
the day of my Death free and clear of all my Debts and funeral Expences to
hold all the same to my said Daughter Joane Lambert and to her heirs
and assisgnes for ever Also I give and bequeath unto oath of my Children
hereinafter named (that is to say) to Jane Streeter ~ Thomas
Streeter and James Streeter the sum of Fifty pounds apiece to
each of them of good and lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid to them
respectively within Six Calender Months next after my Death out of the
residue of my personal Estate by my Executors hereinafter named and I hereby
charge and make Chargeable the same with the [---] payment thereof
accordingly as is in herebefore directed for the payment thereof I give and
bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my personal Estate except
what is hereinafter expected unto my Children (that is to say John
Streeter ~ Mary widow of John Vigar ~ Sarah the
wife of John Bridger of Ridgwick farmer Ann the wife of
William Bridger of Wisborough Green Elizabeth the wife of John
Knight of Worth farmer William Streeter ~ Jane Streeter ~
Thomas Streeter and James Streeter equally to be divided
between them share and share alike within the space of Six Calender months
next after my Death and I hereby will that my Executors sell my two freehold
house which are situate at Lowfield -eath in the parish of Charlwood in the
County of Surry and my leasehold Estate situate in Worth in the County of
Sussex within the space of four Calender months next after my Death for
making the [---] payments of the Legacies and dividing the shares as is in
herebefore mentioned and I hereby make appoint Consititute and ordain my son
John Streeter and my son in law John Knight whole and sole
Executors of this my last will and Testament and do give my two Executors
the sum of Five pounds a piece for their Trouble to be paid out of my
personal Estate In Witness whereof I the said John Streeter the
Testator have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above
written John Streeter Signed Sealed published and declared by
the said Testator to be his last Will and Testament in the presence of us
who in his presence and at his desire have set our names as Witnesses
hereunto James Snelling ~ Sarah Snelling ~ James Goble
This Will was
proved at London the thirty first day of January in the year of Our Lord
One thousnad Seven hundred and Eighty Four before the Worshipful George
Harris Doctor of Laws and Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Peter
Calvert Doctor of Laws Master [---] or Commissary of the prerogative
Court of Canterbury lawfully consitituted by the Oaths of John Streeter
the son of the deceased and John Knight the Executors named in the
Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the Goods
Chattels and Credits of the said deceased they having been first sworn
duly to Administer
