Thomas STONER (1701-1768)

and Mary (c1710-1788)

 

Thomas Stoner and Mary married before or about 1733, possibly near Cowfold, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Thomas Stoner was baptised on 9 February 1700/1 in Woodmancote, Sussex.  He was the son of Robert Stoner (c1660-1704) and Elizabeth Beedle (1657-1717).  Thomas was most probably buried on 11 January 1768 in Cowfold.

Mary's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She may have been buried on 9 March 1788 in Cowfold.

 

Thomas Stoner and Mary had 9 known children:

  1. John Stoner was baptised on 18 May 1733 in Cowfold.

  2. Anne Stoner was baptised on 7 April 1735 in Cowfold.

    Ann may have married James Robertson by licence on 15 February 1759 in Cowfold.  He was the from Cranleigh, Surrey.  The witnesses to their marriage were James Wood and Thomas Martin.  However, she did have a cousin named Anne Stoner born in 1731.

  3. Thomas Stoner was baptised on 23 September 1739 in Cowfold.  He may have married Phoebe Agates in 1765.  (They have their own page.)

  4. Robert Stoner was baptised on 20 April 1742 in Cowfold.  He married Mary Stenning in 1770.  (They have their own page.)

  5. William Stoner was baptised on 24 June 1744 in Cowfold.  He married Sarah Parkhurst in 1768.  (They have their own page.)

  6. Philip Stoner was baptised on 24 May 1747 in Cowfold.

    Philip may have married Ann Harding on 10 October 1768 in Bolney, Sussex.  A settlement certificate was issued on 7 July 1777 to Philip, his wife Ann and daughter Sarah, by the overseers of West Grinstead parish to Cowfold parish (or vice versa).

    On 11 October 1773, Philip was a witness to the marriage of James Shaves and Sarah Snashall, in West Grinstead.

    Philip and Ann had the following daughter:

    1. Sarah Stoner was baptised on 2 May 1773 in West Grinstead.  (Another Sarah Stoner was born in 1774 in Cowfold and yet another Sarah Stoner was born in 1777 in Shermanbury.  One of them was the mother of an illegitimate daughter born in 1801.)

  7. Mary Stoner was baptised on 2 July 1749 in Cowfold.  Mary may have married James Mitchel by banns on 20 November 1768 in Cowfold.  The witnesses to their marriage were William Peters and Walter Hills.

  8. Henry Stoner was baptised on 22 September 1751 in Cowfold.  He married Elizabeth Chasemore in 1775.  (They have their own page.)

  9. Kezia Stoner was baptised on 12 May 1754 in Cowfold.

    Before her marriage she had an illegitimate daughter:

    1. Elizabeth Stoner was baptised on 4 June 1774 in Cowfold.

    Keziah married James Briggs by licence on 18 October 1775 in Cowfold.  James was then from Tillington, Sussex.  The witnesses to their marriage were Thomas Miles and Jane Knowles.
