Henry STONER (1751-1821)

and Elizabeth CHASEMORE (1742-1833)

Henry Stoner and Elizabeth Chasemore married by banns on 16 May 1775 in Horsham, Sussex.  He was then a husbandman of Nuthurst and she was a spinster Horsham.  The witnesses to their marriage were Sarah Nailard and Richard Howes.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Henry Stoner was baptised on 22 September 1751 in Cowfold, Sussex.  He was the son of Thomas Stoner (1701-1768) and Mary (?-1788).  Henry died aged 70 years in Bramber and was buried on 28 August 1821 in Upper Beeding.  Another Henry Stoner was baptised on 22 April 1753 in Cowfold, the son of Thomas Stoner and Ann White.

Elizabeth Chasemore was baptised on 26 November 1742 in Horsham, Sussex.  She was the daughter of Ann Naylard.  Elizabeth died aged 91 years and was buried on 13 November 1833 in Upper Beeding.

A removal order was issued on 4 November 1786 returning Henry his wife Elizabeth and children Ann, Hannah, Philip, Thomas and William, from Nuthurst to Cowfold.

Henry Stoner and Elizabeth Chasemore had 5 known children:

  1. Thomas Stoner was baptised on 3 March 1776 in Horsham.  He was 10 years old on 4 November 1786.

Thomas may have married Sarah Matthews by banns on 10 January 1805 in Horsham.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster and they were both of Horsham.  The witnesses to their marriage were John Parsons and Ann Cragg.

However, there were others:  Thomas Stoner born about 1770, Thomas Stoner born 1783 in Cowfold and Thomas Stoner born 1784 in Shermanbury.  (I'm still trying to figure out which Thomas married whom.)

  2. William Stoner was baptised on 9 June 1778 in Horsham.  He married Ann Marner in 1800.  (They have their own page.)

  3. Ann Stoner was baptised on 27 June 1779 in Horsham.  She was 8 years old on 4 November 1786.

  4. Hannah Stoner was born about 1782.  She was 4 years old in 1786.  She married Richard Freeman in 1813.  (They have their own page.)

  5. Philip Stoner was born about 1785 in Nuthurst.  He married Philadelphia Godly in 1813.  (They have their own page.)
