Henry STONEHAM (1717-?)

and Sarah PUNNETT (1726-?)

 

Henry Stoneham and Sarah Punnett were my 6x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married by banns on 30 June 1751 at the parish church of St. Clements in Hastings, Sussex.  Henry was then of the parish of Ore, Sussex.

Henry Stoneham was baptised on 11 January 1717/8 in Hollington, Sussex.  He was the son of Thomas Stoneham (c1685-1761) and Mary Webb (1691-1726).

Sarah Punnett was baptised on 20 June 1726 in Hooe, Sussex.  She was the daughter of James Punnett (1684-1775) and Mary Barnes (1690-?).

I have checked the Bexhill burial register from 1750 to 1806 and the Burwash burial register from 1762 to 1796 and could not find any Stoneham burials.

Henry's step mother was named Mary Barns and may have been a distant cousin of Sarah's mother.

 

Henry Stoneham and Sarah Punnett had 4 known children:

  1. Sarah Stoneham was baptised on 16 October 1754 in Bexhill, Sussex.

  2. Mary Stoneham, my 5x Great Grandmother, was baptised on 19 December 1756 in Bexhill.  She married Thomas King in 1781.  (They have their own page.)

  3. Hannah Stoneham was baptised on 23 September 1759 in Bexhill.

  4. Susanna Stoneham was baptised on 14 February 1762 in Bexhill.

    Susanna married John Head on 17 April 1786 in Burwash, Sussex.  He was then a widower and able to sign his name, whilst Susanna was a spinster and made her X mark.  They were both then of Burwash.  They were married by the Curate R.E. Langdale.  The witnesses to the marriage were Benjamin Weston and Hab Wood who both signed their names.

    John and Susanna had the following children:

    1. Hetty Head was baptised on 5 November 1786 in Burwash, Sussex.

    2. Elizabeth Head was baptised on 3 July 1791 in Burwash.

    3. Susannah Head was baptised on 11 March 1795 in Burwash.  She married William Waters by licence on 4 April 1817 in Burwash.

    4. Rebeccah Head was baptised on 6 November 1796 in Burwash.

    5. Harriet Head was baptised on 7 October 1800 in Burwash.

    6. Barbara Head was baptised on 1 November 1803 in Burwash.
