My Steel Ancestors
I have 2 possible links into the Steel tree.
The first Steel line is speculative and depends on whether my 4x Great Grandfather was the son of Richard Spicer and Anne Terry who married in Brighton, Sussex in 1778. If so then Elizabeth Steel was my 6x Great Grandmother. She married William Terry in 1755 in Woodmancote, Sussex. She was born in 1733 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex and was the daughter of John Steel and Elizabeth Bartholmew, who had married in 1732 in Pyecombe, Sussex. John was also born in Hurstpierpoint, in 1707, and was the son Richard Steel and Ann Midhurst who had married in Henfield, Sussex in 1697.
The second line begins with an 8x Great Grandmother Sarah Steel who married Thomas Mitchell in 1655 in Horsham, Sussex. She was born in 1637 in Cuckfield, Sussex and was the daughter of Edward Steel and Joane Burt.
